A sweet and fun take on the Cinderella fairytale full of humor, romance and brotherly banter, The Bachelor Auction hits all the right notes.

I love a brooding, sexy man and Brock was the best version of that. The combination of his serious, loyal nature and his inability to say no due to guilt and fear stemming from the loss of his parents as a young boy was both admirable and heartbreaking.

Jane is also loyal to her family to a fault and watching her sisters take advantage of her was frustrating to say the least. Always feeling plain and invisible the last thing Jane expects is the attention of a sexy billionaire but when the two of them stumble into each other by accident, the sparks flew.

Enter a meddling grandfather and his accomplices, Brock's twin brothers Bentley and Brant, and you have a recipe for a messy, but amazing adventure. The banter between Brock and his brothers had me literally laughing out loud. I kind of fell for Bentley as hard as I fell for Brock and can't wait to read his story next.

If you like very low angst, hilariously inappropriate humor and classic romance then you should absolutely pick up this book.

I really enjoyed this book. Definitely a Cinderella retelling but I appreciate the addition of an insane rooster! Jane was adorable although her sisters deserved to be chucked out a window. Brock was a tougher character for me to enjoy because he was such a strong character in many ways but yet was still caving to his control freak grandfather. It was just a little hard to reconcile. His twin brothers though were adorable and definitely redeemed some of the areas where the book fell flat.

3 out of 5 stars.

The Bachelor Auction is a modern day twist on Cinderella. This story has been done many ways and many times you say...you haven't read it Rachel Van Dyken's way. She is a master at story telling, and it's never a boring tale that she spins.
Jane, our heroine, works as a maid and has two horrid sisters. She does everything for these two horribly lazy jerks, she calls sisters. I wish Jane had a backbone, but I understand why she doesn't, again this is Cinderella with a twist, so naturally Jane was way more meek and mild. When Jane is offered a very nice job cleaning Brock’s house it's an opportunity she won't pass up.
Our hero, Brock, is the typical prince charming. He is loyal, dependable, and tries to be the one that keeps everything and everyone together. Brock has two brothers, but unlike Jane’s sisters, They are hilarious and always up to something. They actually brought so much enjoyment and fun to the story. They made the story a great balance.
In true fairy tale fashion, Brock sweeps Jane off her feet and they fall in love. There is an auction, yes but the real heart of the story is Jane and Brock falling in love, I loved how there was an attraction and it wasn't an instant fall in bed together. There was time for them to get to know each other on a deeper level, and fall in love with the person.
This story was a fun and definitely sweet. Sometimes a little too sweet, and I felt that maybe it could detract from the real bones of the story. That being said, I am very excited to see what Rachel does with Brock’s hysterical brothers!

The Bachelor Auction Review

This story is a twist on the Cinderella story. Jane is the baby sister and lives with her two older sisters who use her and boss her around. Tired of being dumped on she chooses to spend three weeks cleaning the estate of Brock Wellington. There is an attraction between the main couple and after some push and pull they get together. The story was cute and the writing was really good. My issue with Jane was that she was weak for far too long. I was waiting for her to have her "big moment" with her horrible sisters and it never happened. She need more of a backbone and it never developed. So that was a miss for me. Brock on the other hand dealt with his issues of his parents death and his overbearing grandfather, Charles. I really loved his brother Bentley and Brant. They had several laugh out loud moments. Oh and Nadine!! I loved her and the love/hate relationship she had with their grandfather, Charles. I can't wait for the rest of the books and this was an excellent start to a new series!

I loved the story but I absolutely hated Jane's sister and at first, I couldn't stand Brock's brothers but I looked past that and I found myself liking the story.

I’m going to be gracious and give this 3 stars because there were a few cute and funny parts and it held my attention enough to finish, but it’s not good. The Cinderella theme was over played. There were some moments that just never made sense. I thought by the end I’d understand why that was said, but never did. And I needed her to stick up for herself more... have a little more self respect than to put up with some of the stuff Brock said/did.

This was a very unique take on a Cinderella retelling. I've read other books by this author and really enjoyed them, so when I saw the audio available, I figured I would read it. I liked both of the main characters. It's dual POV and the narrator switched as well. I did have a hard time focusing on the story and seemed to keep getting distracted while listening. Overall, I did like this book and will be continuing the series. I recommend if you are looking for a contemporary romance take on a Cinderella retelling.

If you’re like me and saw the title and author of this book, you think this is going to be a lighthearted, entertaining, sometimes laugh out loud fluffy story. And just like me, you’d be wrong. This is a modern day twist on Cinderella but oh so much more than that. The emotions in this book are heavy and the meat of the story is more serious than I ever expected and that took me by surprise.

Having only read a couple of books by Ms. Van Dyken, I’d her writing is just as good here as it is in the others I’ve read. She, through her characters, is really funny and the banter among characters is priceless. I literally laughed out loud, often. We have the quintessential meddling older grandfather, the over-the-top mean sisters and the abrasive yet hilarious sweet twin younger brothers in the supporting cast. And you’re going to want to hold on to those laugh-out-loud moments to get you through the seriously painful moments.

When we first meet Brock, he seems a bit stuffy and bred for obligation. He is quite the opposite of his younger, wild and carefree twin brothers. We get a quick glimpse of the real Brock when he meets Jane for the first time. As we see more of him in the story, we find the Brock that is buried so far under guilt and pain that he’s pretty much just a big jerk. Jane is going through her own personal issues but sets those aside to try to bring the real Brock back to life. Their banter, when he’s not being a complete jerk, is quite entertaining. He slowly opens up to her and leans on her strength to finally be free. We are taken on a bit of a wild ride to get to the end of the Cinderella story but it was worth every second of it. While there was some angst, it wasn’t heavy – maybe because Brock and Jane’s pain was so palpable we didn’t need any additional angst.

We get some foreshadowing on the twins stories – no idea whose will be next but those stand to be just as powerful as this story because they are further hidden than Brock was.

This is hands down one of my favorite stories of the year and an absolute must read.
