I wanted to like this book. I really did. But it was so slow. The first 70 pages could have been completely removed. The plot was… boring and slow. Not much happened. We spent 90% of the book doing absolutely nothing. I understand WHY - the last 10% explains it. But that doesn’t make it any less boring.

There were also some ridiculous inconsistencies and the way that a girl not taking her medication in order to push the “spooky/paranormal” side of the plot along was used, didn’t sit well with me.

If I could sum this up in one sentence, I’d say, “Think Verity but YA and just as terrible”.

:( too triggering for me to continue. I highly recommend as a sapphic dark academia story, but now just isnt the right time for me to delve any further into this. No hate to this book at all! I was thoroughly enjoying the story and have nothing negative to say based on the first 50%. Hit too close to home for me but that’s not the book’s fault at all!

Writing was good and plot was exciting… I don’t know if I uh, particularly *liked* the main character but I don’t think you’re supposed to

“The question isn't whether magic is real. It's whether I can touch it without being consumed by it.”

4 stars. Dark academia? Meh, not my favorite thing. I don't gravitate towards it normally. But lesbian dark academia? Yes, please. Inject that shit into my veins right now thank you. This was so good and I’m mad that it’s a stand alone. I need more.

The writing is seriously so good. Lee is a new to me author and I definitely will be picking up more of her work. It’s atmospheric and gives off this eery vibe throughout the entire thing. I loved that the heroine, Felicity, is kind of an unreliable narrator. She doesn’t trust her own memory on what happened the night her ex girlfriend died. She’s a very interesting character and I liked being in her head.

There are so many twists and reveals in this and they all left my head spinning. I loved it. It was engaging and I think to say any more about it will spoil it. I recommend it and I think it’s best going in knowing as little about it as possible.

honestly very good, had a surprising ending but loved the plot

I don’t even feel like honoring this book with a review, but when I hate a book, I have to make sure other people don’t make the same mistakes I did in picking a book up.

It was bad. Just plain ol’ badly written. None of the ideas introduced get followed to any sort of conclusion, the characters feel one dimensional and plastic, and the end left a lot to be desired. It is very clearly a book that was written by vibes and aesthetics only.
