This was an interesting book. It was a fun premise to explore our irrational behavior because it is so often so predictable. It definitely makes you reflect on choices you make and why.

Ariely was funny, and the book opened my eyes to some patterns of behavior that I hadn't noticed. It was surprisingly similar to The Social Animal by David Brooks in some ways, and there were a couple times when I felt like I was reading repeat material, but overall, it illuminated some new ideas in ways that made me laugh.

I listened to the audiobook on Hoopla. I definitely saw my brain makes irrational decisions and it's always good to question how you make your decisions. Re-think all the stuff you do on auto-pilot. All the time.

3.5 stars.

An interesting read on human behavior. There were a lot of ‘hmmm’ and ‘yeah’ moments. The writing is great and easy to follow; also, the arguments are quite convincing. However, after about the halfway through, the discussions started to feel very repetitive.
Few things I learnt:
We live our lives with social norms and economic norms in parallel; once they are mixed, it’s hard to redefine.
Given chances, it’s so easy for humans to cheat, especially if the impact of the cheating ranks low in the moral benchmark.
We not only tend to compare things with one another but also tend to focus on comparing things that are easily comparable – and avoid comparing things that cannot be compared easily.
Free also has a cost! Whenever you see a free! in sales, check what costs are hidden.

An excellent introduction for me to the Psychology genre, I love Predictably Irrational for its immediate practical application in my life. You can reflect after each chapter on times you've acted in the irrational way depicted and you feel better prepared to handle similar situations in the future.

Started off strong. Would have been a solid four stars after the first third of the book. The last two-thirds of the book was less interesting. Perhaps it's just that consumer market behavior is more interesting to me than human honesty or social choice. Definitely would recommend reading the first third of the book for anyone that is in management or marketing.
