4-4.5 stars.
It was unexpectedly good and was thoroughly enjoyable and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. It is so much better than the first book and I would urge anyone to continue reading the series to the end, despite the quality of the first book.

The more I read, the less often it actually happens. It becomes harder for a book to really blow me away, to grab me and to not let go anymore, to make me forget the entire world around me. But this book has done it. That badly that I really had to go the toilet with 130 pages to go, but just refused to go until the book was finished.

The story continues where we left and it starts quite spectacular. I have to admit that the part where they are road tripping through the country wasn't my favourite part, but as soon as they reached their destination and more and more pieces of the puzzle clicked into place that was all forgiven and forgotten. Because I all of a sudden started to see the road trip for what it really was: character building, a perfect show don't tell, a chance for the reader to form an image of Mara Dyer and who she is, who she has become.

Because Mara Dyer must be one of the most interesting female leads in a YA book that I've ever come across. She's not a damsel in distress, she's not a poor helpless girl who needs saving, she's for sure not some angel who can do no wrong. She's constantly balancing on the line between good and evil, constantly standing in the grey area, sometimes even leaning towards black.

And no matter how "old" the books already are, it's refreshing. It's maybe not really and truly easy to like and love Mara, but it's easy to feel for her, to understand where she's coming from and due to being in her head for such a long time, we do want what's best for her, even though at some point we no longer know for sure what that is.

During the finale my heart stopped about a dozen times, but the ending, that was an open ending and made me curious to read the Noah Shaw series, felt really satisfying.

I'm so glad I finally picked this series up and I can't wait until my copy of the first Noah book arrives!

Ouch, my heart cannot suffer anymore from these books. I'm waiting for the companion books to come in the mail so I can kill my heart a little more.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of this book. I neither loved nor hated it, so I struggled to decide on a star rating; it's not bad enough to warrant a 1 or 2 star but I'd say a 4 would be pushing it, yet a Goodreads 3 means "I liked it" .. which I didn't, really. I sort of enjoyed a small portion in the middle but, for the most part, I felt disappointed and not particularly satisfied with the fact that this was the concluding part to the trilogy - that two decent-enough books led to this ending, an ending that's probably more satisfying to fans who are more interested in the romance aspect of the story.
I watched a bit of an interview with Michelle Hodkin where she says that yes, all major questions that we have are answered but, to me, a lot of things felt unresolved and open-ended. I felt like more time could've been spent on explaining than pages of cheesy tragedy and unnecessary murder.

Over all this was a decent conclusion to the trilogy but I did have some problems with it.

Firstly can we talk about how easy it was for Mara to kill doctor Kells. It's hard to believe that their were no other researchers there that were helping and she was more or less doing it on her own. Mara killed a lot of people in this book with basically no punishment. Yes some of them did deserve it and you could say that it was self defense but honestly what made her scary was the fact that she WANTED to kill them and felt no remorse. At times I was questioning if I should even be supporting this character considering how disturbing her thoughts were.

I felt like in this book everything was too easy. It was too easy to get out of horizons, it was too easy to find Daniel and it was too easy to get all the information on the experiments. There were a lot of info dumps which left the reader confused and quite frankly nothing was really resolved.

Can we talk about Mara and Noah's deaths? W.T.F? It was a game of ring around the rosy. So Mara died and then she somehow healed herself because she had completed her manifestation. I didn't think this was possible because I was lead to believe Mara could only inflict bad. Then Noah died but I knew he wouldn't be dead because there wasn't enough intensity and emotion from Mara. So then Mara brought Noah back to life but there was a cost because of it. I'm kinda guessing the guy who had the bleeding nose when Mara and Noah walked out of the warehouse was the one who got sacrificed?

*sigh* so many god damn questions. Jude. So it would make sense that Jude was the real one to murder Claire and Rachel as he sucks the life out of people. But at this point is Mara honestly any better than Jude. Trust me Jude did horrible things but it wasn't entirely his fault as his brain was pretty fucked up. But in saying that Mara had killed a lot of people as well so she's practically just as bad.

In the end everything Mara and Noah's ancestors did to aid Noah in saving the world was done in vain. Nothing was achieved and a lot of people suffered for absolutely nothing. I did enjoy Mara's Grandma's chapters because they did help tie the story together and made it easier to understand.
Quite frankly I wanna know what happened to Jamie and if Mara will end up killing Noah. Also my question is, how could the disease be passed down to Joseph? I know it's genetic and all but if it started with Mara's grandma and then skipped her mum and infected Mara wouldn't that mean it would go to Mara's child's child? I don't know maybe I missed something.

Over all it was an enjoyable novel but nothing was really achieved. The best way I could describe it was a glorified and slightly disturbing love story. But the ending was so clever, I see you Michelle Hodkin. I see you. ;)

I hadn't read any bad reviews before picking this up. But tons of booktube videos said THEY had heard bad reviews. But I loved the first two and was wanting to end the series. So I picked it up. It wasn't as good as the first two. It didn't grab me right away like they did. It was a bit darker, a lot of throat issues, and I could have done without some of the 1 paragraph parts towards then end. I still don't feel like it was wrapped up though. It did drag in parts, for me. I felt like the author was just repeating certain sections. But it was enjoyable and I'm glad I have finished the series.
