This book is not the authors best writing. I enjoyed the characters and the family bond they shared. The book was slow and did not have enough surprising hooks.

It was perfect for my parking lot read of the week. It is easy to pick up, yet keep an eye on the car in front of me so that we can orderly line up to pick the children up from school.

Loved the story, but an overall very slow
Moving book, probably mostly because there are no chapters…. Liked it overall.

Barefoot by Elin Hilderbrand
Vicky who is battling late stage cancer packs up her 2 sons and a pregnant friend whose husband is caught cheating, and a sister who's having an affair with a student where she teaches
all head to Nantucket. Josh Flynn works for his father at the airport and he helps them babysit and gives them all the time they need to do the things they have to do to get on with their lives.
He's a writer and when they get off the plane something grabs his attention.
Book alternates with chapters from each of the woman. Interesting and quite a good storyline as each one goes through their own problems...
The house has only one bedroom and most of them find this a challenge, never mind only one bathroom. Love hearing how they solve all their problems and how
they are able to enjoy the island and the summer. Such good memories of being on the island with games, cards and friends...
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

I listened to the audiobook for this one as per usual. I got a little distracted halfway through because a couple of other audiobooks that I had on hold were auto-checked out for me and I wanted to finish those before they were due so I didn't have to be waitlisted again. However, once I got into it, I got really attached to the characters, despite their stupidity. Mostly I connected to Vickie and her relationship with Josh. It was incredibly cute, and not slightly perverted like the others with Josh. The second half of the book was really hard on me. Sad things give me a lot of emotions, especially in audiobooks. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book for what it was, though the inappropriate relationships killed me a little.

Elin is GOOD at what she does these beach melodrama and middle aged white lady female fantasy. I’m eating it up. This one has cancer and elicit affairs and lobster dinners on the beach. Truly and unironicly I LOVE her books. This one had a bit too many oh this all played out too perfectly with no real repercussions for our heroines but also that’s satisfying in its own way. Also this book’s title makes no sense. And she’s got some very weird retrograde obsession with women’s bodies—like all the men in this book either have perfect bodies or their bodies are not remarked upon but all the women’s bodies are picked apart also there’s some very odd self worth stuff around sex but otherwise I’m hooked.

The library copy I read has seen better days, but I get it. This is a book you want to carry around with you to squeeze reading time in at every opportunity.

I really loved Vicki. Everything about her. The other characters, who were all really great in their own rights, even they made me love Vicki more; in the way that Vicki responded to or regarded them. She is a respectable, reliable, 100% in-your-corner friend that you can always count on. She never passes judgement on others, but holds herself to incredible standards. In this novel you follow this woman‘s journey through lung cancer.

Barefoot is an incredibly deep & moving summer read. It’s heavier than what I would normally consider a beach read personally, but my library is currently featuring “Beach Reads” which is where I picked this up & I’m glad I did!

This is a great book for discussion — I would have liked reading this with a group.
