The library copy I read has seen better days, but I get it. This is a book you want to carry around with you to squeeze reading time in at every opportunity.

I really loved Vicki. Everything about her. The other characters, who were all really great in their own rights, even they made me love Vicki more; in the way that Vicki responded to or regarded them. She is a respectable, reliable, 100% in-your-corner friend that you can always count on. She never passes judgement on others, but holds herself to incredible standards. In this novel you follow this woman‘s journey through lung cancer.

Barefoot is an incredibly deep & moving summer read. It’s heavier than what I would normally consider a beach read personally, but my library is currently featuring “Beach Reads” which is where I picked this up & I’m glad I did!

This is a great book for discussion — I would have liked reading this with a group.

Three women descend on Nantucket for a summer of healing. Vicki, recently diagnosed with lung cancer, Melanie, who just discovered her husband's infidelity and her own recent pregnancy after years of failed in vitro, and Brenda, Vicki's sister who was recently fired after a sex scandal at her university job. Seeking the healing powers of the sun, sand, and laid back lifestyle, the women struggle in the beginning. When Josh, a Nantucket native, crosses their path, they all realize how integral one another are to their story. Told with Hilderbrand's signature breezy yet complex storytelling, this book was lovely and a great start to the beach read season.

I really enjoy the characters and relationships that Elin Hilderbrand creates in her novels. Barefoot was no different. The three women who escape to Nantucket together are all dealing with different crises in their lives and the way they react and come together is interesting and entertaining. I will continue to read Hilderbrand's novel for her complex and developed female characters.

I just couldn't get into it. I didn't care about any of the characters and 30% in it felt like nothing had happened yet.

I love Elin’s books because of the differently storylines and different point of views, but this one started off really slow and was hard for me to get into. But once I was about half way through I was starting to enjoy it a lot more!

It was the perfect beach read for the summer. It was a little cheesy, but if you know that going into that and are ok with that, you will like this book :)

such an amazing summer read! great story about three women who are friends that go away for the summer. one is knocked up and her husband is cheating on her, the other is a mother of two with lung cancer, and the other girl is a professor who sleeps with one of her students. its a truly wonderful friendship these women possess together.

It’s really unclear even to me why I keep devouring these books despite the unremarkable storylines and incredibly unlikeable characters. I maintain once again that her more recent books are far better.

(Yet, here I am, reading them all at breakneck pace and I’m sure she’s laughing all the way to the bank.)
