I loved this book! It mixed suspense with a hint of romance and had some action as well. The characters are all well rounded and there is something you can connect with and like about them all. It story itself was interesting and very well written I could imagine it as I read. The details are amazing without bogging down the story or distracting you from the action. Very well written and edited as well I couldn't believe how fast I got through it and it left me wanting more.

Here’s what I think;
While I liked the simple and lucid writing style, with likeable characters, there’s a nagging feeling at the back of my head that this story is missing something. The relationship between the characters are great, the profound sisterly bond between Kiera and Alana, brotherly respect for Alana’s husband and a cordial albeit a little hot and cold interactions between Kiera and Gage.

I just think sometimes Kiera’s thought divert in the wrong direction. For instance, while interrogating Marsdale, he made a suggestive comment about the three of them together. Instead of getting disgusted by his insinuation, she was curious as to how it worked. Well, she’s inexperienced in that fashion I’ll give her that.

Kiera seems to be the one know it all person. While Gage is the one leading the investigation, she’s the only one making all the important deductions. Now see, I really love a strong and brilliant female but it kinda feels pretentious for her to discover such details that could also be detected by Gage. Kind of feels like she’s the only brainy one in the whole lot of people in that house. So that kind irked me but altogether, I think Kiera is a likeable character.

Kiera and Gage’s relation is interesting to say the least. I can feel the attraction between them, a beginning of a good connection so I hope it goes somewhere good.

As for the other houseguests, they seem too much superficial and immersed in the arrogance of their peerage and it’s tendency to gossip and come to illogical and impulsive conclusions.

Well, the mystery didn’t turn out to be so great after all.

I'll admit I was interested in finding something to fill the void after I finished watching Miss Scarlet and the Duke and the Lady Darby series was one mentioned in my search. I thought it was a very apt suggestion although it didn't have as much humor threaded through it as the show did.

I liked that Anna Lee Huber pretty much starts things off with a scream and keeps going from there filling in the expositional information as the mystery proceeds. This really kept the story moving at a good clip.

When all was said and done, I wasn't super surprised when the murderer was revealed, but of course you come for the mystery and stay for the delicious interactions between Lady Darby and Gage. I do love how the end leads perfectly well into the next book which just means I have a new series to binge. Luckily my library seems to have all these available in audio.

When I read this series for the first time, I didn't have my Goodreads account set up. So now on my second read through of the series in anticipation of the new book coming out next week, I can post a proper review.
I love this series and Lady Darby. I enjoy all the characters, but Kiera, Alana, and Gage are my favorites to read about. The Anatomist's Wife is the first in the series and has an engaging mystery and a lead character with an intruiging past. Historical mysteries are, hands down, my go to genre and the Lady Darby Mysteries is one of my favorite series in the genre. I'm thoroughly enjoying them on my second read through.
The mystery begins right on the first page and keeps you guessing and determined to solve the mystery right alongside Lady Darby. Upon my first reading I had narrowed the guilty party down to two possible suspects. I hadn't successfully narrowed it down to one until very shortly before the reveal. Some mystery books fall into setting up alleged high stakes, to only fall flat when everything comes together. But the stakes were appropriately high in this book as Lady Darby came closer to solving the crime and thereby putting herself into the line of danger.
100% would recommend to any fans of historical mysteries.

A very enjoyable read!

It was a bit predictable and there were a couple moments where I was exasperated that the characters didn't make certain connections or look at things a different way but it was still a good mystery.

I loved the individual characterization of everyone and the subtle romance was a nice touch that I became very invested in. It's a little graphic in terms of gore (which is to be expected given the premise of the story) and I usually can't stomach that sort of thing but I managed to get through it without feeling gross. I can't wait to read the second book!

I had high hopes because I liked the premise of the book and was looking forward to another good series with a strong female protagonist but alas, this is not what I hoped for. Skipped about 100 pages over halfway through and still managed to be caught up and unsurprised.
