This is different from first book while I liked more Grey of course, there wasn't enough of of Harper( they should be a endgame) but this just comfrmed that I don't care about Rhen at all.
But I will read 3th book.

"Ah yes, the most dangerous person at the party is always the girl sitting alone with a book.”
“Fear makes people act in ways we'd never expect.”
“Today, guilt is a thorn I cannot remove.”

Its safe to say that yes even though I would have LOVED more of Rhen and Harper in this book I enjoyed it nevertheless .excited for the last one yayy!

the sequel we didn't know we needed. brigid comes back woth another five star book in this series. honestly, this woman can write, if i do say so myself. i wasn't expecting us to get a good sequel, since sequals are very rarely as good as the first book, but brigid bestowed upon us another great work of literature.

one of the main things i loved about this book was that my baby grey was one of the two main characters this time around. speaking of which, lia mara was actually a pretty cool character. i didn't much enjoy her character at first, because it seemed that all she cared about was that her sister was the heir to the throne and not her. however, as time went on and her character started to evolve and grow and change, she turned out to be a pretty cool character (and somewhat of a badass. we atan this absolute queen).

again, just like the first book, brigid gave us some nice representation. mainly, it was the fact that there was a whole nation built upon the strength and badassery of strong women; i mean, who doesn't love a country where women get to rule and be the ones with power? we stan those so syhl shallow queens. and the main female character, lia mara was just overall amazing and iconic. she was able to fend for herself, fight off bad guys, the one to do the saving in the beginning, and she was so clever and brave. i honestly love her and she's just so empowering an inspirational. we also got some more gay representation, though it was mentioned briefly. but still, i'll take anything i can get. especially since brigid knows how to write the characters just like everyone else, because news flash, we aren't an entirely different species.

now comes the time where I must mention how much i love the story and the writing. brigid is as amazing of a writer than ever and her storytelling is beautiful. i love how it's now shying away from being a beauty and the beast retelling and becoming its own separate story. this time, it was a story of love, friendship, survival, choices, and above all, saving the kingdoms. i honestly have nothing to critique about the story, i loved it down to every last word. however, i would say that my favorite parts were when grey was in rillisk. his and tycho's friendship is just too pure for this world, and i smiled and was so happy everytime they interacted with each other. their friendship is just so wholesome and they make me so happy.

speaking of characters making me happy, my favourites this time around were iisak, grey tycho, and lia mara. although jake and noah were pretty cool too, they just weren't favourites, you know? of the new characters, i especially love iisak. it's just something about him that draws me to him, he's just so cool.

all-in-all, this is another five star read for me. the series makes me so happy and i can't wait to see what awaits us in 'a vow so bold and deadly,' 'specially with that ending. again, nice work brigid.

my annotaions;
"their friendship? adorable. iconic. very sweet. much love. much cute." - page 54

"nice rhyming haha," - page 137; '[...] we have far too much history for his thoughts to be a mystery.'

"if iisak dies i'm quitting." - page 302

"more gay rep. thank you brigid. we love." - page 341

"my poor baby :( (f*** karis amiright?)." - page 352

"grey said consent matters and we stan this king." - page 398

I do not read the synopsis so I had no idea this while book would be based off Grey.

I liked Gray in the first book and definitely like him a lot more now, but Lia Mara drove me a little insane. She cried too much for one and there wasn't much chemistry between her and Grey imo. I think the author had to bring in a love interest because there was so much chemistry between him and Harper, but the plan was to keep Harper and Rhen together.

Now since the first book is based off Harper I couldn't get it out of my mind that everything that Rhen ended up doing, Harper would've lost her shit and fought back. She wouldn't have let Rhen punish Grey, and she most definitely wouldn't have stayed with him. We all know how much Harper fought back in the first book so why would it be any different now? Especially when it's against someone she considers her friend.

The whole book made Rhen out to be the villain and now we find out that Lilith at some point came back to Emberfall and Rhen didn't tell Harper. It just feels like Harper and Rhen together was not fully developed. Story got cut off with the POV of Grey in this book.

Wow, a lot of people seemed to not like this book. Maybe my standards are too low or something, but I really loved it, and I can’t wait for A Vow So Bold and Deadly!!!
