“What do normal people talk about?"

I wanted to love this book so bad, it has everything that should be perfect: a murder mystery, interesting characters, and it's in the Sherlock universe! But sadly there was just something missing for me. The mystery wasn't all that thrilling, I had a hard time staying interested sometimes. And the ending didn't feel as "WHAT?? They were the killer all along????", if you know what I mean. I just wanted something truly awe worthy.

Charlotte Holmes was a tough character to swallow at times. I get that she's supposed to be like Sherlock, kind of rude, and doesn't really understand the way people behave, but Sherlock was also insanely charming at times. You couldn't help but love him. Charlotte was missing a lot of his charm. She did have some good moments, but they were overshadowed by how bitchy she always seemed.

Jamie wasn't my favorite either, but I liked him way more than Charlotte, which saddens me a little, because I was so excited to see a Sherlock type of character be female.

There were some things I enjoyed about this story, one of the main ones being the relationship between Charlotte and Jamie. They really worked well together. And I enjoyed some of the side characters as well.

Thrice great grandchildren of Holmes and Watson meet and team up. Here are reasons to read this series:

Descendants - Jamie Watson and Charlotte Holmes are the descendants of the famous literary duo

School - who meet for the first time at school, both having heard of the other for awhile

Recreation - But when people at school start being found in the recreation of mysteries of Sherlock’s famous cases

Investigation - they must team up to investigate why they are being targeted

If you are a fan of Truly Devious or a Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series, this has the same vibe. Although in this case we do follow the point of view of Jamie. The ending isn’t shocking, but I really felt like the characters were so well done. This is the first in a 4 book series and I will be reading the rest through the end of the year!

Friends to lovers/crime solving trope is always a banger if done right and Charlotte and Jamie are serving it.

I really enjoyed this! I have never actually read an Arthur Conan Doyle book, but I love Sherlock and the Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr so I do know the basics of the stories. I loved this new fresh take on the Holmes and Watson characters, Charlotte and Jamie were an awesome duo.

I think the dialogue between Holmes and Watson was what kept the pages flying, instead of the mystery they were trying to solve. It didn't grab me, and I wasn't dying to see who was the killer I just loved reading the conversations between the two.

The last few chapters really ramped up the pace though, and I found myself finding any spare moment to get my hands on the book and finish. I'm looking forward to seeing the next adventures they go on, and possibly even adding one of Conan Doyle's books to my to-read shelf.

A little confusing at first and it made my brain bleed a little trying to understand everything. But I was at the edge of my seat all the way through. The multiple plot twists gave me whiplash and I bounced from thinking one person was the culprit to another
