This one is was a cute first read for the year/end of last year. Very inclusive with its range of characters and something different.
That being said, I don’t know how much I really enjoyed the whole matchmaking app installed on your phone that is spiritually connected to your dead friend thing. It’s just not in the realm of believability for me. I know it’s fiction but I just don’t vibe with it.
I do like the concept of you potentially having met your soulmate and being able to reconnect with people from the past. It’s fun and there’s possibility for chaos.
I wish there was more about Corr exploring other things Joelle left her and dealing with grief because that interested me.
Also kind of thought the reveal about Cory would have been a bigger deal than it was but we were getting towards the end of the book so it had to go somewhere.
Still, as an Amazon Prime First Read I took a chance on, I’m not mad about it.

I love the concept of this story, it felt unique and familiar at the same time. I found this story to more heavily focus on friendships and family than the romantic relationships. Like I thought there would be more focus on the dates but that wasn't a big deal to me since I didn't have any perceptions going into this. I also really liked that aspect of the book, though. I didn't fall in love with the characters but they were relatable. It was a little slow for me in the middle, but it picked up towards the end. I loved that this story was set in Chicago and the author chose have a lot of location references.

This was a quick, cute romance with a really original premise! I loved the characters' personalities and how they really jumped off the page. I love "chosen family" tropes because it's so relevant to my own life. I appreciate how open Corinne was to meeting new people and welcoming new opportunities; there was never any big hesitation and that's so refreshing to see. However, there is a huge plot hole in the book that drove me mad. How did the Met app get on Corinne's phone in the first place? It didn't appear until months after Joelle passed away, so how did it suddenly appear?
The plot line surrounding grief was so powerful. I love how no one tried to rush Corinne into "moving on" and instead held her as she experienced grief and how it permeated her life in different ways. I also LOVED that Cory learned sign language of his own volition because he knew how important it was to Corinne's family.
I wanted to love this book more than I did, but I couldn't get on board with Corinne letting some app dictate her entire life. This book is cute and worth reading if you're willing to suspend belief for a while.

I had quite a few ups and downs with this book, not gonna lie. I wasn't super drawn in until I was a bit into the book and then when we were about to hit the third act break up I pushed off finishing it because of how I thought it would go. Much to my delight, it didn't go the way I thought it would and it made my enjoyment of the book go up.
I also loved how naturally diverse this book was. There were characters of various ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and even disabled rep! It was fantastic to see how effortlessly Baker was able to weave all these characters into the story and still make them feel like real people who are more than the diversity they represent. As someone who lives in Chicago, it's really like that here so it was awesome to see the real diversity reflected in the book.
Overall, this was a super fun, low key fantasy contemporary romance. It reminded me of a more diverse and better written Hallmark Christmas Movie! Considering I still like the badly written hallmark movies, this was excellent! I can't wait to see what else Camille Baker puts out!
