It's kinda funny how much more I love this book now when reading it on my own vs when I had to read it for school (and do a writing assignment on it).  It was such a charming and lighthearted book, and I caught on to so many things I'd missed on my first time around (particularly concerning Lizzie and Mr. Darcy).  As always, I loved all the flowery prose and the Regency era setting.

This has definitely joined my ever-growing list of favorite books.  I am so eager to check out Jane Austen's other novels :)

I had a good time reading Pride and Prejudice, but my enjoyment was lessened by me not having the knowledgeable to fully parse the writing, especially the tone of some conversations. At some points I could not determine if something was said with sarcasm or sincerity. Also, the perspective did cause me some trouble, with how it was focused on Elizabeth, but commenting on what other people were feeling occasionally. It lent the book the air of an incident report.

My very first Jane Austen novel and I was not disappointed. I expected to find it difficult getting into the book because it was written in the 1800s but I was never more wrong in my life. Jane Austen writes her characters as if they were real people to me. I did not expect to understand the writing so easily and I did not expect to LOVE nor feel for the characters but I did.

I absolutely LOVED Elizabeth. What a strong main character who takes no shit from anyone and has the patience of a saint. I hated Darcy at first but wow, the journey to get me to love him as a character and as a love interest for Elizabeth was so amazing to witness as if I was there through it all.

Mr. Bennet, the Gardiners, Jane, and Charlotte were the real MVPs ESPECIALLY the Gardiners. The little portion of the book at the very end which dedicated Darcy's and Elizabeth's love for them was so beautiful and touching I love them so much!!!!

I HATED Lydia and Wickham lol nothing could make me like them. This was the part where I, for the first time, decided to puck the book down and wasn't eager to pick it back up. Other than that storyline, THE BOOK WAS AMAZING. Oh and I hated Mrs Bennet who was good for nothing other than being a shitty mother and annoying character.

ALSO, THE ROMANCE??????? HELLO???? I WAS LITERALLY SMILING AND SWOONING AT THE FUCKING BOOK WHENEVER ELIZABETH AND DARCY DID INTERACT. I LOVE THEM SO MUCHHHH

This is the novel I’ve read the most over the course of my life. I’ve seen every film adaptation, the BBC series, and my children even have names from the novel. But Kate Beckinsale’s audio book brought new life to my favorite book. I noticed details I hadn’t before. This reading was such a joy. I cannot recommend listening to Kate’s reading strongly enough!

I’ve been wanting to read Austen for years and finally got the chance to. It took me longer than usual with the prose, but I did not much much. After reading so many books that were the literary equivalent of potato chips, this novel felt like a full meal.

I’ve managed to avoid watching any of the film adaptations so I knew very little about the plot and I enjoyed every moment of it. Can’t wait to finally get to watch the movies, and to read more of Austen’s work.
