HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA THIS BOOK IS A JOKE
I was actually going to give 1 star for the efforts of the author but in the acknowledgements I realized he did not even bother to say “thanks to my readers”. I endured this horrible book and if I don’t deserve even a thank you, then this book doesn’t deserve even one star (:
Prince of Thorns 5/5
King of Thorns 5/5
Emperor of Thorns 0/5
I will never forgive Mark Lawrence for ruining my precious Jorg from book 1 & 2. I was not just a fan of him, he was everything to me. While everyone hated him, I loved him the most since the beginning.
This book is the biggest disappointment of the year!
~ spoilers
The reasons why I hated this book:
MIANA DESERVED BETTER
JORG CHEATED ON HIS WIFE
KATHERINE STAYED ALIVE
EVERYTHING WAS A DREAM
5 YEARS EARLIER CHAPTERS (boooring)
JORG’S UNNECESSARY SACRIFICE
BABY WILLIAM BECAME THE EMPEROR
AUTHOR THANKED EVERYONE BUT THE READER

The last installment of the Broken Empire continues Lawrence's earlier streak of excellence.
Jorg's evolution continues, as does our understanding of the world left after the fall of the Builders.
Lawrence continues his framework of two stories, this time separated by five years. The early story takes over where the earlier story left off in [b:Prince of Thorns|9579634|Prince of Thorns (The Broken Empire, #1)|Mark Lawrence|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327917754s/9579634.jpg|14466531] - with Jorg in his grandfather's court on the Horse Coast. It answers questions that we were left with after the second book: What happened with Ibn Faed? Where did Jorg get the gun? What did Fexler want?
In the "now" storyline, we follow Jorg to congression. Miana, now 15 and pregnant, is a meaningful voice again in this story, though like the last she does very little. I really liked the queen - she was a good match for Jorg in both intellect and cunning, though like most she falls short of him in ruthlessness. Jorg's struggle to deal with his position - which he hadn't really accepted in the second book - and impending fatherhood is interesting and gives us a lot of insight.
The Dead King marches over Empire. His goals, identity and weaknesses remain unknown. The story spends more time from the point of view of other characters than it did in the previous two books. I think it is a good development, and allows the reader to have a much fuller understanding of what's happening without giving the game away.
The way these three storylines come together and resolve is unexpected, but at the same time has been prepared and foreshadowed for the last two books.
An excellent close to an excellent trilogy.

Surpassed my anticipations way more than anticipated. :) To be honest, I would have been happy with a well-rounded story where Jorg melts intelligence and sheer luck into actual brainbashing and most things turn out fine in the end. I never expected this many threads to twine into a three-dimensional puzzle that is solid from any angle. Kudos, Mr. Lawrence.
I finally decided to brace myself finishing this series, and I was relieved it didn't turn out bad at all. This definitely was the best in the trilogy. The plot was much better and Jorg remains as one of the most unique character I've read. I love how Jorg still able to surprise me, how unpredictable he was sometimes, how he just not hesitate at all. His development and his journey to redemption was done so well in this final book. It was not a surprising ending but it was a very good and satisfying conclusion.
VERY strong ending to the trilogy. I particularly love that he decided to make a clean break and move on to fresh pastures with his next book, while setting it in the same world.
The theme of "men are made of memories" was one that resonated with me. The writing and plotting both continue to be incredibly precise, without sacrificing beauty. Mark Lawrence is fast becoming one of my most admired genre writers.

Was not a fan of this ending. Seemed very underwhelming. After reading so many series with morally good main characters, I just wanted Jorg to continue on like how he was back in book one. This was my least favourite of the trilogy. This may be bad to say, but I miss the Jorg with very little to no moral compass.
This instalment was a bit of a let-down. I struggled to finish it - unlike the previous two - and the ending did not make it worth my while. I think I kept reading because of Jorg. I've never encountered a character like him, he is unique and utterly engaging. I will be revisiting Lawrence's fantasy world in the future, I think.
