I read Brutal Obsession a couple of months after it released and I thought I would keep up with the series as the books came out, but with me being me, of course I didn’t do that. I don’t really have regrets though because I can read the series now without waiting and it also helped prepare me for Miles being Willow’s hero in Secret Obsessioninstead of Knox like I had thought he would be after the first book. I wasn’t too heartbroken by that though because I’d heard that Knox was a real jerk and yeah, the public was right — he was definitely a piece of work in this book. However, while I’m not crazy about him, I fell hard for his brother, Miles. Miles for sure has that dark deviousness usually present in an S. Massery hero, but he’s also very sweet and so utterly devoted to Willow that loving him and wanting him to have it all was easy.
I will say that while I loved, loved, loved Miles and was really looking forward for to reading Secret Obsession in the first place and thought it had the potential to be my favorite, I had a lot of ups and downs with this book. It was definitely more on the angsty side than the previous two books were and though angst and I can sometimes be friends, more often than not, we’re enemies and for this book, we were enemies. It wasn’t as fun as the first two books in the series and I just couldn’t enjoy it on the same level as I had the others. I still really loved Willow and Miles, in particular, and I rooted for them the whole way through, I just didn’t wholly connect to them for a while. Once I did though, I had a great time and I was able to fully love them. Secret Obsession was difficult and yeah, I could have done with less angst, but Willow and Miles were worth it in the end and I’m happy that they have no more obstacles in their way and can live their best life!

I tried so freaking hard to distract myself and prolong finishing this book, but not matter what I tried nothing stopped me from DEVOURING Secret Obsession in a day.
I am so freaking obsessed with these guys. Every single book just gets better and better. These depraved, obsessed, walking

I love s Massery and all of her books. And I did really enjoy this book a lot.
My only complaint is that this series isn’t something I would recommend to read like back to back. Which I did. I jumped into this immediately after reading devious (because I loved). Reading it immediately after made me realize the plots follow the same kinda path, which isn’t bad because I do like it, but I think it would probably be the most enjoyable if you wait and read other books into between them.
But this is a really good dark hockey romance with an unhinged mmc. The audiobook is really good too

Miles was probably the most unexpected of the series so far. He left me speechless more times than I can count starting in the first couple chapters. This man y’all he’s just I don’t want to say amazing but I’m calling dibs. The way he handles Willow and yes I say handles. Because that’s exactly what he does. He’s is dark and this book has some dark themes and I love every single one. If you love an over bearing, break her to make her, dark romance you need this book now.

This one was the darkest (to me) so far...but also, sort of the softest. The plot is a revenge plot and the most intense so far. Miles took things the furthest than any of the other guys have. I was surprised at what he was capable of. But his actions were FOR her and not TO her. He was completely gone for her and did anything for her...literally.
This one isn't a bully romance. It's a literal touch her and unalive.
I think I've been brainwashed somewhere between the first book in the series and this one because I was annoyed by the heroine in this one. She seemed too broken to me, too wounded and devastated. It didn't make sense to me since she spent most of her life not being told she was loved. So, I didn't understand why she spiraled so hard from the initial rejection. And she spiraled spectacularly...in a slow de*th of sorts. Also, Miles was literally ALWAYS there for her for years and she knew it. It's said a few times that she noticed him constantly, so I don't really understand why she didn't think about Miles caring about her once. And I didn't get her serious denial of his feelings, or hers all based on her situation with his brother. I mean...they are two completely different people.
Yeah, she bothered me quite a lot.
Miles though, I loved him. I don't know what that says about me, but oh well. He was 100% obsessed with Willow, from the moment he met her. As soon as he saw his chance he swooped in and stopped at nothing to have her. This man was not going to take no for an answer or let anyone get in his way of having her. He showed the most control when it came to her but the least amount of control when it came to outside forces messing with her.
I'm starting to wonder if I need to go back and re-read the first book again. But then...I strongly disliked how "brutal" he was to her and the length of that one, so I don't know. Either way, this one was another winner for me. Steele is still my favorite though.

4 Stars.
This is the story of Miles and Willow. Admittedly, to date, my least favorite in this series. I started this and put it down because I just wasn't connecting with it the way I wanted to. I also was shocked in how it popped off. Completely unexpected. I guess to do that in a reader is impressive, but I felt it a little over the top. I say that to say this - I felt that way then but now since I have read the entire book, I understand it better. It makes sense and it held depth and weight to the point of the entire plot and foundation of the book.
I found in the beginning and in through the middle of this book reading Miles and Willow was hard. It wasn't that intense, heavy chemistry the other couples hit with. It felt forced and awkward; lacking emotion. Again, as you move through the book, I understand why S. Massery wrote this as she did. It just did not make it easier to read. Willow is traumatized from what happened with Knox and other things in her life. She disassociates from everything to try and work through things and doing so it leads to a darker path she was unprepared for. Miles was the Goalie for the Hawks and also crazy about willow and had been for a long time. Because of the mental space Willow was in, it took alot for Miles to reach her. And you guessed it, he had to do alot of messed up crap to get there.
Severely possessive, controlling, overly protective but also crazy MMC. It worked but it was just a different style. Willow was closed off and I believe that was why I felt it so hard to connect with them. It wasn't giving for me.
Despite that challenge for the book, I enjoyed it over all. I really liked the angst and stalker myself it provided. I loved the relationship the group had together as well.
A 4 star and an overall good read. If you struggle, keep going, it is a good book. It's just different from the others. Be very mindful of triggers and red flags because this book is filled with them.

Hold on hold on...let me get my ish together.....clears throat....ok I'm ready....
I LOVE THIS BOOK MUCH AND MILES IS MY SECOND FAVE HOCKEY BOY THAT S. MASSERY HAS EVER WRITTEN. (this is only because Jacob is my ride or die and no one can have him but me....ask Sara)
I had the privilege of beta reading Miles and let me tell you....I fell into that book and didn't come for air until the very last line! This book was absolute PERFECTION. I can't even put into words properly HOW fucking MUCH I loved this book.
If you've followed me for any amount of time, you know that Sara is one of my favorite authors (and hello....I made her by my friend too). She is one of the most well rounded authors that I've ever encountered and I love her dearly. This series is just...top freakin tier. I loved everything about Miles and Willow. When I found out Willow was his FMC, I about screamed because Knox did not deserve her. This book is a freakin rollercoaster of emotions so buckle up buttercup and get ready for a wild ride.
I'm not sure how Sara does it, but Miles does some crazy things....he has so many red flags that I lost count and the entire time I was thinking "I like this...I'm here for it."
As always, please check trigger warnings if you have them and don't come at me. But also, you're welcome!
