There were a few useful pieces of advice or reminders in this book, but I didn't feel it needed to be as long as it was. Some of it was honestly a little weird too, but if it works for some people then that's great

This book was transformative. The author explained in detail the power of self-compassion. Why it’s important, essential, how it can better our lives, and then explained ways to show it to yourself and the way our own self-compassion positively affects those around us. There are so many amazing tools and strategies that I will use moving forward.

There were a couple of things though that brought me out of the book a bit. The author often had sections where she talked about her own experiences, yet to me those experiences were very unrelatable and I think sometimes became more of a distraction to the main message than examples. Also the frequent bible quotes made the book feel more religious and I felt disconnected. Lastly, some of the people she quoted maybe should have been left out to strengthen her message (Woody Allen comes to top of mind).

Overall a transformative and incredible guide to showing yourself love and compassion and warmth, especially in times when we need it most.

There are elements of this book that are quite problematic (her treatment of autism, lack of acknowledgment of appropriating ideas from Eastern cultures etc). I did find some of the exercises and guidance in the book very helpful but am sure there are other less problematic books on the topic out there.

I really enjoyed this book. I think it will definitely take some time for all the ideas to sink in, and a lot of practicing self-compassion before it really becomes a part of my life and myself. I didn't enjoy the personal stories as much in this book as I do in Brene Brown's books; I just don't think those are Neff's strong point. But the ideas discussed here are explained very well and Neff does a good job of explaining the importance of self-compassion.

A self-help book is life-altering--what a cliche! But I stand by it. My life is infinitely better when I put into practice the things that Kristin Neff shares here.

Audible listen. This book has a great message/concept that I desperately need (even according to the professionals 😉😆).  I'm just not sure this was the best book written to speak to me. I may have done better with it if I read the book instead of listening.

5 stars to self-compassion, 1 star to this book

Read other low reviews…but the autism section, the curvy women comment, the cheating. Not for me. Not finding enough helpful moments to make the rest of the boring junk worth it. DNF and proud of it.

The book has some very good advice and wisdom and I think the delivery would be very well received by some audiences. For me it just didn't land well. I did like her messaging and information but the story telling in-between and styling didn't work for me.
