“Don't be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don't have to live forever, you just have to live.”
I don't know if it can count as a reread if I don't really remember much of it from the first time. What I do remember is that Tuck Everlasting is one of the earliest books I remember reading on my own. It's such a magical world that feels new, big, and full of promise. The book puts you at ease, yet somehow you're excited for this grand new adventure. It's just such a wonderfully moving and surprisingly thought provoking book for being a children's story. The story really leaves your at peace and this yearning to live a full life. Such a bittersweet feel-good story that's perfect to pick up in one sitting.

The question this book deals with is that “if you really could live forever, freeze yourself in time, would you do so?”. And one person in this books gets to make the choice. Other people have the choice made it for them. It’s a children’s book. But everyone including grown ups sometimes wishes that how good it would be if we or our loved ones would never die. This book explores how it would be if it could be so. And it’s dealt in a way that is accessible to children.
[The unfortunate thing I discovered (or rather it got reconfirmed) while reading this book was that I really am too practical and logical, with little imagination and little magic in my life. I found myself wondering about irrelevant questions —— how many molecules of the special water is needed to make one immortal, how does the body work when you are immortal?, how can you be eating but be unaffected by a bullet?, what would happen if you stopped eating ? Can they die by starvation ? —- and such questions which are really useless and you must abandon for the sake of the story. It’s so sad that I am incapable of assuming such things. I think I need very sophisticated premises to allow magic in my life. Maybe only the realm of thought / mind connections /feelings is the only place where I can permit magic. Definitely not in the physical world. ]
Would have loved it if I had read it as a kid when I was willing to take big leaps of faith.
Everyone should read it. We need to think about death and discuss it and not avoid it as if it is a taboo.

Movie adaptation pretty true to source material. Really enjoyed the writing. A timeless classic and short to boot, so I'm glad I finally read it.

I'm not entirely sure how to go about reviewing this book so I'm going to go down the pros and cons list.
Pros: detailed, romantic, hopeful, sensitive, honest, beautiful description and philisophy
Cons: too much narration and not enough story, not as romantic as I would've liked, too short
I remember seeing this movie when it came out and I loved it, I adored it and I had always wanted to read the book. I finally do and sadly I am left with the feeling of this is an alright book, something I would've adored at the age of 10 or probably younger 7 or 8.
I do like the story and the concept of it and it was written very lovely, but I didn't adore or love or fall in love with this book the way I thought I would or the way others do.

This was my second time reading Tuck Everlasting; the first being fifteen years ago when I was in fourth grade. I knew it was a book that I would read again someday and I think the second time around was a sweeter experience than the first. I think my age gave me the insight to appreciate the novel on a deeper level. The story itself is beautiful and leaves you with things to reflect on, and on top of that, Natalie Babbitt’s writing is absolutely exquisite. She paints scenes in such a poetic nature that had me appreciating little things I hadn’t thought to before. Her descriptions are so artistically driven and at times abstract, yet they are incredibly accurate. An overall lovely book.

I read this with my girls and was disappointed. We enjoy reading middle grade literature, and I was so excited for this one as it was magical--which my girls love! They would always groan when I suggested listening to it--which is odd. Something in the prose didn't work for them. I think, perhaps, the older style might have been too slow. ??? But there are other classic children's literature they've loved. We've even read some slower adult fiction (that didn't have anything age inappropriate). I honestly am not sure why they disliked it so much. Just wanted to share a review that it was not enjoyed by my 8 and 10 year olds that typically enjoy middle grade books with a pinch of magic.
