Enjoyed this one a lot more than the previous book as there seems to be a lot more happening; not just the action but the suspense of not knowing who to trust, the engaging mystery, and whatever is happening between Max + Fang.

I stopped reading the actual Maximum Ride books a while ago, simply because the plots were getting too crazy and random for me to believe. But I've always had a soft spot for the characters, so I'm enjoying reliving the first few books in manga form. This one, I felt, was really bogged down by the convoluted narrative, but that's a James Patterson problem. But what makes the manga worth it are the character interactions and the absolutely stunning artwork by NaRae Lee.

I just can't even! I love this series! I love these characters! Like I'm just gonna fangirl for a few seconds. Don't mind me you guys.

Characters: Max: I love this girl. She's like sweet and caring and brave. But she's also moody and insecure and like a real fourteen year old girl. Also the way she looks out for the flock is just precious. Annnd I want her and Fang to get together already, cause they're too cute

Fang: Coolest mutant ever. He doesn't talk much (so of course you want him to talk more) and he's kinda broody but that just adds to his overall mysterious essence. But he needs to cool it with that girl

Iggy: I think it's pretty clear by now that I adore everyone in this comic…but IGGY! I mean again, like Iggy doesn't talk a lot but you can't help but love this dude. He's a blind mutant with wings and is highly skilled at cooking and making bombs. My heart broke at that scene where the group couldn't find his parents and he broke down…but his interaction with Max was so hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing! XD

Basic plot: So in this issue, the group is discovered by an FBI agent, who takes the flock home and enrolls them in school. Max is understandbly a little jealous because she's been the "mom" of the group and doesn't like this woman taking over. Plus the erasers are still on the flock's tail, looking to destroy Max

Overall story/Impact: Another hit. I loved the more tame approach this issue took. Like it was still exciting but it was nice seeing the gang try and adjust to normal life. I do want then to break out on their again and find their parents though. I have like no complaints. This comic rocks.

Would I read it again: Yes

Would I recommend it: Definitely

Was it memorable: Yes

3.5 of 5- This was my favorite so far of the series. I am ready to read the novels now when I was hesitant to before. But I really like the story and the characters so I'm doing it! If you are hesitant about the novels try the graphic novels first and it might sway you.

Didn't follow what I remember of the books, but it was still really entertaining and the artwork is really well done. Looking forward to continuing the series.

The moments at Anne's home were really nice, but I feel like the author/artist is intentionally trying to build some suspense after being so flat for a while. There is still some confusion on my part, though, and I don't know if it's my bad reading of the style or if it's the book itself.

I feel like I'd understand more of what was going on if I was reading the novels, which may need to go on my to-read list for the summer. On the other hand, some of my students have told me that the manga boil down things to the basic parts of the plot, whereas the novels seem to meander a lot more in narrative.

Once I actually got started reading this volume, I enjoyed it so much. I find this is a problem I am having with the series, I really like it but I find it really difficult to pick up the next volume.
This volume was a bit over the place, and there's not much I can say without spoilers. I will say however, Max is such a cutie and tbh so is Fang. Everybody seems to be developing more powers and they seem somewhat random, not really much to do with being an avian. But I'll ignore that minor flaw because the powers are cool, lol.
The art continues to be amazing and is probably my favourite thing about this manga, I love the character designs and it's just so nice to look at. Definitely going to pick up the next volume.
