His stories are what make this book amazing.

Wow! This book gave me a new perspective to many aspects of my theology/worldview that I took for granted as truth. Claiborne addresses his frustration with a biblical wisdom that is unsettling and worothy of a sleepless night or two.

This book could really change my world if I let it. But, it is also hard to understand the specifics in a suburban family context. There were so many things I read that made me think. Sometimes I got a little frustrated with his viewpoint--but I need more time to think about it. I wish I had read with a pen in hand.

One thought that rang true for me (although not the most important in the book), was the concept of "Spiritual Bulemia"--reading Christian books, movies, articles etc. and vomiting up the information to friends and neighbors before we have had a chance to digest it. I recognize that I so often read a book and spout my opinion. At the same time, I recognize that talking to other people helps me to formulate how I think, or adds depth and insight.

this book is quotable and thought provoking. It's one of those books I identify with big time, it spoke to me in such a way- a call to living life in love and showing a different view of what a christian could look like.
challenging hopeful informative fast-paced

Wow. Deeply challenging.

i don’t know how many times i’ve read this book, but it repeatedly changes me. one part memoir, mostly examination of church = activism = radical love / compassion. begins with shane’s experience as a young “born again” evangelical, and the moment he, as a college student, discovers homeless families about to be forcibly kicked out of a long abandoned abandoned church. the unjust irony was striking and triggered his lifelong dedication to living with radical love and generosity in the name of Jesus. i read armed with a pen. it never fails to challenge and inspire me.

Very inspired after reading this!

Back in 2008 our church had a focus on MISSION. We studied books together and moved out into the community for action. This was the first book in the reading series. Shane has a lot to say about living simply, sharing, loving, getting to know those you serve. It has a strong message but I found it repetitive and lost interest, so I didn't finish it.

This book was amazing. I had the pleasure of meeting Shane at a World Vision conference last year while on a urban partnership. He is one of the most humble, loving, and wise people I have ever met. He speaks simply but you learn so much from what he has to say. So much of this book is common sense that has been drowned out by the noise of our me-first culture. Shane has had some amazing experiences and at all times remains humble, funny, and speaks the truth in love. I would recommend this book to everyone. It was amazing. I have read some of his work before and I look forward to reading more of it. Shane Claiborne has been one of the main figures in helping me to take my Christianity seriously and to act on it, going out into the world to help others and to build community.

This is one of the most amazing books I've ever read. Shane Claiborne is a beautiful human being, and I absolutely recommend this book to everyone.
