I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the overall premise, an unlucky girl who gets caught up with the Russian mafia accidentally becomes involved with a man who could just help save her life. Right away there is a twist
Spoiler she's pregnant, but does not realize it and gives birth to the baby with the help of the MC male
that added a good subplot.

However, I had some issues with this book. For one, I felt we were dropped right into the middle of the story when it opens up. I actually thought I had accidentally skipped a few pages when I started because of how it begins. Secondly, I wish that we could have had Thibault's POV. Instead we get a whole lot of Mika eavesdropping and that's how we "hear" his side of things or what is going on with him and his friends. This seems implausible because if he is such a good securities guy you'd think he'd be more aware of his surroundings and how his voice carries in certain areas. Also, how many times can one possibly eavesdrop?

I also felt there was a lot of unfinished business as far as the mafia plot line was concerned. It all just sort of tampers out. There are still questions and seeing as each book in this series is a standalone, this means we won't be getting the answers to what seems to be pretty important matters as far as Mika is concerned.

Lastly, and this is more of a personal preference, but I did not like the insta-love. I don't believe that in five days you can fall in love with someone, especially not when so much of that time is taken up by running and hiding. (Also, I found myself rolling my eyes whenever Mika and Thibault got mad at each other for not fully trusting the other. You've only known each other for days. It's ridiculous to believe you've earned that right yet.)

With all of that being said, I did enjoy it. I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but I did like the side characters and can see myself going back to read their stories.

As a last caveat, I wish there were more descriptors of the characters. I had a hard time seeing them in my mind as I had no idea what they looked like. Very little is said about their appearance.

I got this from Netgalley as an ARC and didn't really know much about it at all going in to it, but I read the whole lot on a recent plane ride to America and was pleasantly surprised! There is certainly a good twist to the plot at the very beginning which I didn't really see coming (although maybe I should've since the signs were all there). Never read any in this series before but they all seem to work as standalones as well, since at no point was I confused in this.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

I was actually rather surprised by this book! I've not been impressed with more recent installments of this series, but this one was actually rather entertaining! It started out with a bang, and while it was supposed to be fraught with tension, I actually found myself focusing on the relationship being built.

Mika and Thibault had an interesting dynamic being created. I liked how he was willing to sacrifice most of what made up his life for Mika. I also liked how strong Mika was as a heroine, especially with everything that was thrown at her.

The "suspense" plot was practically non-existent, and what was there fell very flat for me, especially the ending. I really felt that there was no resolution to the plot thread. This book also hinted at new members of the team, but nothing ever came of that either, so the reader is left wondering if this is the end of the series.

If this book is the end of the series, it's not that great of an ending! We don't find out until late in the book that 2-3 years have passed from the events of the previous installment, and that information is put in so haphazardly that it's easily overlooked. I'm also not entirely sure where things could go from here.

It was an entertaining read, but left me with more questions than actual answers.

This book might be far fetched from the type of storyline I would go for but all the action got me hooked! The last one of the Bourbon Street Boys series and I’m in awe at how the author was able to still insert bits and pieces about the other characters but still focusing on the two that matters most! I don’t regret binge reading all 4 books!

DNF at 67%.

Oh Elle Casey, it's not you it's me. Your books are like Marmite for me, I either love them or I hate them. This one was doing so well and then Thibault went and spoilt it.

Tamika (Mika) Cleary is a book-keeper for a Russian mobster, she is on her way to the Police station when she takes a wrong turn down a one-way street and mows down Thibault Delacroix. Their heated exchanges about whose fault it was take a backseat when Thibault realises that Mika is going into labour, much to her surprise.

Alone, with no friends and no-one to trust, Mika reluctantly turns to Thibault and the Bourbon Street Boys, but she won't hand over the evidence she has on her former boss - that's her insurance.

As I say, this started well, Mika is totally shocked by giving birth and is trying to plan her escape from New Orleans, but stuck wearing a hospital gown and with her car having been towed she has limited options. Thibault has a superman complex and wants to save everyone, although he swears Mika is too much like his sister Toni for him to ever want a relationship with her, he struggles with his feelings for Mika.

But then it starts. Thibault is helping Mika because he wants to, he practically forces his help on her, and yet he also demands that she tells him everything. Over and over again. He bullies, he uses emotional blackmail, he exploits Mika's love for her son, he sulks, he insists she needs him but he can't help her (with an implied "at all") unless she tells him everything and gives him the codes to her secret files. He insists she trust him but seems incapable of trusting her. I got increasingly angry and when I feel compelled to throw my Kindle on the floor in rage it's time to DNF.

I'm sorry Elle Casey and I promise I won't request any more books by you from NetGalley. I say bully, you say bossy; I say doormat, you say in need of help from a big strong man.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Tamika is not in a great situation. Her indigestion is kicking up, she’s turned informant on her Russian monster boss, she just turned the wrong way up a one way street and hit a guy. Oh. And it seems like her indigestion might just be something more.
Thibault Delacroix might have been the best person she could have hit. Strong, steady, and part of a team of good guys, he might be able to help her live.
I didn't love the ending and thought that the romance was sacrificed for the story (a lot more tell than show).

Dadgummit. This was so close to being a perfect series for me. But alas, this last book didn’t work for me. By halfway through this one, I was rolling my eyes like I normally do with romance novels. It wasn’t a bad book, per se, but the level of drama was higher and the level of humor was lower than the three books that it follows, and I felt strongly that it was the weakest link in the series.

The beginning was promising. Our protagonist thinks she’s been stress eating and suffering from terrible indigestion and possibly an ulcer, until she hits a Bourbon Street Boy with her car and goes into labor. Before she can even accept the fact she’s pregnant, Mika is giving birth to a beautiful baby boy in a nail salon, with an injured Thibault playing catcher. Which is where hilarity should’ve ensued. But it didn’t. *Disappointed sigh*

The thing is, Mika is an interesting character. A bookkeeper for a Russian mobster? Interesting. A bookkeeper who has been gradually squirreling away information so she can turn state’s evidence? Even more interesting. A bookkeeper for the Russian mob who is an informant and had no idea she was pregnant because she was so stressed? Fascinating! But we get all of that information within the first fifty or so pages of the book. The rest of the book just didn’t keep my interest. And Thibault, though a sweetheart, has the least amount of personality out of all the Bourbon Street Boys. He’s just a little bland comparatively.

I wish that Toni and Lucky’s story (book 3) had been the last book of the series instead of this one. It just lacked the spark of the other three. It fizzled instead of flared. Instead of laughing and getting super invested in characters, I ended up rolling my eyes a lot. Which makes me sad, because I really wanted to love this series all the way through.

The Bourbon Street Boys went out with a whimper instead of a bang. Even though it technically ended with a bang, because it ended with a sex scene. (Why?!) But overall, the series was super fun. I just wish it would’ve ended on more of a high note. But it’s still definitely worth reading. If you’re usually a romance fan, I think you’ll love this. If you’re not, at least give the first book or two a shot. Even though I was disappointed in this particular book, Elle Casey has earned herself a fan. I’ll be reading more of her work in the future.

Thibault has always been my favorite Bourbon Street Boy. Silly, strong, and a real gentleman to the guys' wives and kids. He is like a gentle giant but his sister, Toni, has labeled him Superman and the name will stick forever. Tamika has been stuck in a world of Russian mobsters and has been forced to live her life day by day hoping she survives.

I loved it so much. It's a must read
