The first book I've read in a long time that made me double check the deadbolts on the doors.

This is the first book by Lisa Gardner that I have read, and I enjoyed it. Well-paced and gripping until the end. Rape and murder are never easy to read, and this story is no different. Yet, I continued to finish it. I'll look into her other novels.

A few good twists in the story. Also some very predictable events. Ok book.

Does Lisa Gardner have a boring bone in her body? If she does, it sure doesn't show in her writing. You can expect plenty of thrills in any of her fast-paced and well researched novels, and The Survivors Club is no exception.

It's Roan Griffin's first day back as a Rhode Island state police detective after a long hiatus from work owing to the death of his wife and a serial child murder case that nearly broke him. It doesn't take any time at all before he becomes embroiled in another case that is sure to leave its mark: Serial rapist Eddie Como has just been assassinated outside the city courthouse, and the prime suspects in the case are the women who were once his victims.

Jillian Hayes, Carol Rosen and Meg Pesaturo formed The Survivors Club after narrowly escaping Como with their lives. With Hayes as their de facto leader, the women have had one goal: to bring Eddie Como to justice.

Just when the case of the College Hill Rapist seems to be all locked up, Como seemingly rises from the dead and strikes again. Will Griffin be able to solve the mystery and bring the rapist to justice? Expect lots of twists and some pretty dark pyschological issues in The Survivors Club. It's a real page-turner!

i recently came to a realization that many of the books I had read in the past few months and many of the ones in my immediate TBR pile wer paranormal/UF and/or YA books of some kind. While these books are some of my favorites, in an attempt to not become burnt out, I went back to an old staple, the murder mystery. Overall, I adore Lisa Gardner's books and I've had this one sitting on my shelf for quite some time, the only older book of hers I had yet to read. Evidently there was a reason for that, as their was something missing from this one.

Gardner's books tend to follow a similar format in that there are usually multiple voices: the hero, the heroine, and usually the villain. This one was different. The chapters were labeled by who you were supposedly in the head of, yet it didn't always feel like you were solely with that character. You also followed so many characters and it skipped around so much, it got confusing at times.

One thing I count on from Gardner's books is to be sucked into the story and to not be able to escape until hours later. This didn't happen with The Survivors Club. It was very slow to get started and nothing seemed to happen for the first half of the book. Instead the characters drove around and chatted with each other without any action or any solutions evolving. At one point I considered not finishing this one and that's pretty much unheard of for me!

I wouldn't consider Gardner's work cozy mysteries. The violence can be somewhat graphic especially in her more recent work. The romance, while tame in comparison is also a big part of every book. While there was a bit of a sweet storyline in this one, overall the romance was lacking and disappointing.

This was my first Lisa Gardner book. I really enjoyed her writing style -- it's fast paced and interesting. I will definitely be reading more of her!

Lisa Gardner is my favourite crime drama novelist. There is something so satisfying about her characters, the balance between what we know and what we need to figure out. I love that this books opens up with a discussion between two men about how to cover up their heinous crime. From page one we are in the same place as Griffin - what happened and what really happened? It is a good book.

i'm not sure why this book felt so familiar or what but i certainly had a sense of deja vu while reading this, entirely possible i've read a bit of it before or something. it's been a rather long time since i've read this genre so who knows!

although i really enjoyed the story i was incredibly uncomfortable with the use of the words "sp*c" & "g*ps*".

honestly that's my biggest complaint.

4.5 really.

This book blew all my preconceived notions of adult mysteries out of the water. I loved this!! The characters are so developed and the mystery really kept me guessing for the entire book. I was really confused in the beginning and it was a bit slow, but once it picks up it really picks up.

I adore Lisa Gardner's character work & this book contains so many great characters. Jillian (who is fiercely loyal), Meg (who is sweet and kind), Griffin (who is earnest and brooding)... so many lovable characters whose interactions are endearing and entertaining and funny. So in terms of the character work, this novel is a fantastic read! Plus, it's a fairly long book, so I was glad to be able to spend a considerable amount of time with these characters.

In terms of the plot: honestly, it was pretty unsurprising. For example, the prologue opens with two unknown characters discussing methods to rape women while avoiding detection and detainment by police, s0 readers know the rapist that is active throughout the novel has an accomplice/friend who knows his methods/identity, and therefore, it's very unsurprising when readers learn that "Eddie" is still taking new victims even after his death. Also, there were many ideas explored by police throughout the novel to solve the mystery (red herrings, etc), but by the end of the novel, a couple of those felt like unaddressed loose ends. For example, at the end of one chapter (I don't remember which), the LT suggests that Griffin contact certain help lines to see if the rapist hurt any other rape victims who did not file a police report, and readers never learn the outcome of those phone calls. And the ending... well, a bit of suspension of disbelief is necessary. Especially since the characters figure out the identity of the rapist on a whim... just a bunch of sudden "Ah-ha!" moments for both Griffin and Jillian that enable them to solve the mystery.

Regardless, Gardner's writing is great as always and this book is another fun (and funny!) read. For these reasons, I enjoyed it just as much of many of her more popular books.
