HOT PURSUIT by Julie Ann Walker is an erotic journey with a side of intrigue and suspense as an unlikely couple play cat and mouse with love.

Christian is “that” hero, hot, alpha and cocksure about life, except when it comes to Emily, but he willing to stick his neck out for something he never thought he could have. Emily is a little harder to know, to like or relate to. On the one hand, she wants what Christian is offering badly, but her denial is as weak as a kitten and her reliance on her past as an excuse, particularly after nearly dying gets a little annoying, I mean really shouldn’t she have realized what a gift life and love are?

Erotic, suspenseful and filled with characters that ooze alpha badassness, Julie Ann Walker certainly cannot be accused of going light on the sensual tension and heated passion!

This one really read like filler in the series. It didn't really advance the overall plot. The relationship (consisting mostly of snarkiness) was already established before the opening scene. The secondary relationship seemed like more filler, since it wasn't really explored or resolved. I'm looking forward to the next book, though, because it seems like it might resolve more and explore a shadowy character who has been around for much of the series.

I could not get into Fuel for Fire. I wanted to. I love Dagan and Chelsea, but the book as a whole I just couldn't get into it. So I worried the books were done in my eyes. BUT! I'm so close to the end I figured I may as well finish it out. I'm glad I did.

Hot Pursuit is Christian and Emily's story. I've always enjoyed their banter in previous books. The one thing that has been turning me off of the books is the heavier mission action where the romance isn't involved (I started reading them for the romance). I tend to skim those sections — and the same happened when the brothers showed up in this story. I don't want to read about them, their back story, or what they're doing and why they're doing it. I'd much rather it come out when they interact with the main characters. I'm also really tired of the Spider storyline. But that just may be me.

In the end, I enjoyed the book, it was a quick read, and I'll be going for #12 to see how our Angel fares. :)

Christian Watson may be a super pain in the butt where Emily is concerned but her stupid lady parts don't care! She feels supercharged when they are antagonising each other and when he wheedles out of imparting information, Emily turns his own name into a verb!!!

He was SAS until he essentially abandoned by his country and as far as he is concerned BKI is now his home and family. But as with any family there are disagreements, simmering tensions and bickering, all of which is captured beautifully.

But when Christian's past and the teams current mission collide, he wonders if he can extricate them before Spider or whoever is hunting him, catches him and the team.

Emily is finally back on solid ground. She lost her job when she lost her former flame and vows to never mix business and pleasure again. But Christian is temptation personified. With her family's addiction to wedding cake, she doesn't feel that she would be a great long term partner for anyone.

Add in tensions between the clearly attracted Ace and Rusty, who go about their lives in very different ways and this is a funfilled, passion charged, edge of your seat ride. All packed into a very short time frame.

Hugely addictive!!

Worth the wait!

If you've read book 10 in the series ([b:Fuel for Fire|30166742|Fuel for Fire (Black Knights Inc., #10)|Julie Ann Walker|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1485011398s/30166742.jpg|50606294]), then you had more than an inkling that Christian and Emily's story was going to be something else. Their constant bickering with and "annoying" each other made it clear to everyone but them (or was it?) that these two had chemistry to spare. You just knew their book was gonna be good--and it didn't disappoint!

Hot Pursuit begins where the last book left off, with four BKI employees still stuck in England, trying to get back to Chicago. The infamous and elusive Spider's still at large, but now another, more immediate enemy is at hand, and Christian, Emily, and the rest of the gang spend most of the book dealing with danger from that front.

But those gosh-darn hormones, they keep getting in the way...

I loved watching Christian win Emily over to his way of thinking (the car wash scene--whew, that one give you some niiiiiice imagery to ponder!) and am really looking forward to seeing them be all couple-y like in the next book ([b:Built to Last|35383070|Built to Last (Black Knights Inc., #12)|Julie Ann Walker|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1505952815s/35383070.jpg|56744133]--Angel's book, woot!) but please, please tell me that Ace and Rusty are at least getting a novella (though really, they deserve their own full-length book!)

Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A-

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I am a huge BKI fan and love the series. There are some things I like about this book. I love the relationship that Christian and Emily have. I like how they tease each other and ruffle each other’s feathers. I like how sweet Christian is when he realizes how deep his feelings for Emily run. I also love how this book gives us more insight into Angel and Ace as well. I like how the others from the earlier books make an appearance. And of course, the lead into the next book is a nice bonus as well.

With that being said, there was something missing from this book. Hot Pursuit felt a lot like a romance, without the suspense from Walker’s earlier books. This book felt more like a filler to give Christian his HEA. And I am not sure that it would work as a stand-alone, which is not true for the other BKI books. And as much as I like Emily, she irritated me toward the end of the book. Her reaction to Christian’s feelings was stupid, and the fact that she is so insecure about her feelings and whether they are real or lasting is ridiculous for someone who is a grown woman -- even a grown woman with a screwed up history.

Hot Pursuit by Julie Ann Walker is the eleventh book in the Black Knights Incorporated series. It provided a humorous, fast-paced and gritty story with a blend of passion and romance. This is Christian Watson’s story.

What the story is about.

Christian Watson is a former SAS officer and a current member of the Black Knights Incorporated. He left England, his homeland after a horrific turn of events had him questioning his loyalty to his country. He had no plans to return the country that betrayed him, but his current mission set him on a path, which required him to return to the place he once called home. His return however did not go unnoticed, which led to unknown enemies’ hell bent on revenge surfacing. Fighting for his life is nothing new to Christian, but when it involves protecting Emily Scott, it is a different ball game.

Emily is a former CIA operative. She is the office manager for the Black Knights. Burnt by love she vowed never to fall in love especially when it involved a co-worker. Her number one rule, men are good only for recreational purposes. However, when she is forced to spend time with Christian in closed quarters, while being chased by his enemies, she began questioning her pre-conceived ideas about love.

The Story
Hot Pursuit picked up from where the previous book ended. I liked the story, but it did not wow me as I hoped it would. The highlight of the story was Christian escaping the enemies from his past and his relationship with Emily. The thread involving the villain, whom the team was pursuing from the previous installments and the reason they were in England was not addressed. Mention was made of the fact he maybe behind the team’s current troubles but that was where his involvement ended. For me this was a huge disappointment. In spite of this, it had some redeeming qualities. There was intrigue and action with a side of humour and passion.

The Characters
Christian is a fascinating character. He is the epitome of an alpha male. He is hot, confident, protective and willing to fight for what he wants and he wants Emily. Emily on the other hand was a disappointment. She may be tough when it comes to dealing with her colleagues, but in matters of the heart, she was a wimp. Using her past to avoid romantic entanglements was not only weak but also annoying.

The Supporting Characters.
I enjoyed the camaraderie between the members of the Black Knights. They made a great team not only in the field but also on a personal level.
Regarding the villains, I found them irritating. Revenge drove their actions, but they were reckless and clueless, which made them dangerous.
Angel, a member of the Black Knights peaked my curiosity. Mystery surrounds him and I would love to know his story, which luckily will be revealed in the next installment.

The Romance
I had a difficult time connecting with the romance between Christian and Emily. Emily’s actions grated on my nerves. Everyone around them is aware of how they both feel about each other, but she kept denying her feelings. She kept making up excuses as to why they could not get involved with each other. I did not like that, she was happy with sharing her body, but not willing to share her heart. Christian was forced to fight to save what he believed was the best thing to have happened to him.

I did enjoy the banter between them. They had silent way of communicating with each other, which was a testament to the depth of their connection. If only Emily would acknowledge her feelings and stop hiding behind her past.

In addition to the romance between Christian and Emily there was another one developing on the sidelines between Ace and Rusty. I found this developing relationship more interesting than the main romance, even though it is not one that I would read.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Despite not caring much for the heroine, I enjoyed Hot Pursuit and cannot wait to read Angel’s story. I recommend this for fans of romantic suspense.
