This is book 2 in the Salem sister series. Book 1 was spells trouble

Mercy and hunter mother has died and they are mourning her death. Someone has come through the gates and inhabiting another body but they find know who. A bunch of murders occur and they do not know who is behind it. The sisters are working separately due to an argument but they are both going though a lot. Can they save the town before something worse comes to town and the gates fall apart completely .

I was given this arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Mercy and Hunter’s mother has been murdered and the role of protector of the Gates is now theirs. These Gates lead to different underworlds where mythological and nightmarish creatures live. Unfortunately, the sisters are no longer a team. Can Mercy save the Gates on her own? Will Hunter be able to fight the allure of a dark goddess?

Omens Bite is the second book in the Sisters of Salem series. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a twin (I don’t); I believe everyone can relate to the issues Hunter and Mercy are dealing with after their mother’s death. The mythology that is woven into the story is not overbearing and it was an enjoyable escape to learn some things about Egypt and its past. Cast left this story incomplete, so readers will want to add the next book to their TBR list so that they will look for it in the near future. Omens Bite was a fun and easy read that took me away for a while.

I gave up on this one about a third of the way in during my first reading attempt because things got way too teenage melodrama for my tastes, but I came back and it really redeems itself towards the later half of the book. The melodrama remains high but the focus is once again on the danger of the trees and the need to seal them.
The lack of focus this series has is starting to annoy me, but I already have the next book so we'll see if the Casts can stick the landing after stumbling in the middle.

Hunter is furious at Mercy after Mercy made her forsake Tyr and her sacrifice didn't help the Guardian Tress. After their mother's funeral, Hunter moves out and refuses to speak to Mercy or Xena. She vows to find her own solution to fix the trees which involves her new patron goddess Amphitrite and a spell book that craves human blood. Meanwhile, Mercy spends more time with the Egyptian Guardian Khenti and visits the Egyptian underworld. Will Hunter and Mercy finally be able to come together and fix the trees or will the gates collapse and end humanity?

I really hope that the story is wrapped up in the next book because Amphitrite is really creepy and up to something horrible. I hated that the twins were fighting. I love Xena and her tuna obsession. I want Mercy and Khenti to end up together, but they are literally worlds apart. #OmensBite #NetGalley @WednesdayBooks

Enjoyed the second round of this story. The sisters are starting to grow in their craft and the storyline is progressing nicely. I'm intrigued to see what happens in the third book.

This book picks up where book 1 in the series left off, Spells Trouble. I recommend reading the first book in this series before reading this one. Otherwise, you will not understand what is going on. This book has a dark vibe to it, then the first book. It is told in dual POV's of the twins, Mercy and Hunter.  It is a fast-paced story that ends with a cliffhanger. The twins are just 16 and have to deal with adult problems, so you see their immaturity more in this book. My favorite parts were the added mythology. The Egyptian land of the Dead is a nice addition to this story also.

I was excited when I saw I was provided the chance to read Omen's Bite the sequel to Spells Trouble and the second book in the Sisters of Salem series. Once again centered around Mercy and Hunter we pick up right where the first book lets off. This book very much fell victim to the second book syndrome and it felt like the plot was dragging on, it felt like this was giving us important information for the next book while not a lot else was happening to really progress the story. I'm hopeful the next book will be a little faster-paced and give us some of the action that was lacking in this one.

The plot is great, the side characters are great. The two main characters whining about each other is difficult to get past.
