This is a nice cliché mafia arranged marriage romance, though I enjoyed the first half way more than the second. The h was too easy in forgiving the H. I really hoped for a good grovel from the H. I was gonna dnf after our main couple turned so lovey-dovey and forgets what the H did but I’ve dnf too many books already so I was skimming the second half part of the book instead. Didn’t care much about the twist and the villain was kind of obvious from the start. Characters all feel so flat, well except maybe the little Vida, and Mateo. But who named their kid Vida? (It means Life in Portuguese and Spanish, unless there’s another meaning I’m missing) Is this a common name? All in all, a quick read for a long boring day in celebration of another week of lockdown.

ugh. this could’ve been a four star because it really was well written, but there were certain tropes i just cannot stand that were prevalent throughout. i wouldn’t have read it had i known about the big one that ill put in content warnings, and i honestly almost dnf’d because of it.

I have been a huge fan of Abigail Davies from early on in her career and I say this with cast-iron certainty Lorenzo Beretta is a top 2021 read and has secured a spot on my all-time favorite list.

Lorenzo is the type of mob boss we should hate because this man doesn’t toe the line he destroys it in the most heart wrenching ways. If awards were given for being an alphahole, Lorenzo would assuredly be a gold medal winner.

Aida had caught Lorenzo’s eye and with that moment he made assumptions that he soon learned were far off base. Aida was feisty and not willing to be pushed around without pushing back. She was also kind, caring, and had this genuineness to her that made her easy to love.

Lorenzo and Aida’s had an uncontrollable chemistry that began with thunderous actions and led to volcanic reactions. They went from one extreme to the next and every bit of it felt so deliciously right. The banter between them was entertaining as they had this push and pull between them and a fascinating ability to make antagonizing each other go from sass to steamy in the blink of an eye.

Abigail Davies busted into the mafia world like a true mafia boss. Lorenzo Beretta was profoundly consuming. An intricately woven blend of hate, soul-stirring chemistry, fiery retorts, witty banter, moments that are heartstopping, jaw-dropping, all the feels, and steam.

This was hard. It was close to being a 4 star read for me, but a few things were HUGE issues for me. This is an arranged mafia marriage between Lorenzo and Aida and all the angst that comes along with it. I actually very much enjoyed this story and that we got to see them grow together. But the setup in the beginning was quite confusing. Most arranged mafia marriages - at least in romance books - the marriage is required by the head of the family to show stability and that you are a family man. But Lorenzo knowingly flaunts for EVERYONE to see that this isn’t that. He doesn’t at all treat her as a wife in the beginning. This was confusing as well because there were no scenes where Aida or her family had a discussion that this was going to be an “in name only” marriage - and none between Lorenzo and her- yet it’s clear that’s what he intends. I didn’t at all understand that she wouldn’t have asked him about that at any point along the way either. It just didn’t work for me in the setup and was a huge miss for me in this story. But otherwise I really enjoyed it and didn’t want to put it down until I finished it!

Move over Don Corleone 'cause there's a new bad boy in town! Smoking hot, confident, and ever infuriating Lorenzo Beretta and his new bride Aida are intensely captivating in this explosive and highly addictive read! Five stars for this story that tops my list of mafia favorites!

From beginning to end... EPIC!!

Lorenzo isn’t someone you love from the get go. With his role in the Mafia world, he has many hard edges. And some you want to slap. Hard. But from the moment he meets Aida, he hard exterior has a soft spot. Only for her.

Aida is an awesome heroine. When we first meet her, she comes off as meek. With Lorenzo in her life, we meet the badass and defiant side of Aida. And I loved it!

If dark, Mafia romance and arranged marriage are your jam, GET THIS BOOK!
