This book reminded me why I do my job as a librarian. The last few years have been hard. Being a librarian is very difficult right now and often times very isolating. This book made me feel like I was being welcomed by a community of my own. I recommended it to all the librarians in my district.

I will say there were sections where I had panic attacks from how closely some of these situations mirrored my own experiences of having books challenged and being slandered in the community. Be careful.

Absolutely phenomenal! This is my first ever James Patterson book and I absolutely loved it. The heartwarming stories told here make you believe in the good again. Almost every story brought me to tears, happy tears. This book made me fall even more in love with reading and books and the power that storytelling has. I also think this book really shows how impactful it is to read to your children and instill these fundamentals early on and how it impacts people through the rest of their lives.

“. I’m always astounded to hear about the number of people who don’t read. I’ve taken to double-checking those sobering statistics compiled by Literacy Inc., that 33 percent of high school graduates never pick up another book, and that 42 percent of college grads don’t either. Oh yeah, and apparently 80 percent of American families did not purchase a book this year. I can’t imagine what people do without books in their lives.”

James Patterson is an avid library and bookstore supporter, he uses his status as a best selling author to support librarians. This book is one example. He and his co-editor invited librarians and book sellers to tell their stories, describing what they do and how they became what they are. Each story is short, collectively, the stories illustrate the various work in the library and book selling world. It is an easy read. Book lovers will see themselves in some of the pages.
