The Sandman is a book that feels so much like a mystery-thriller movie that you can basically visualize it as a movie as the story unfurls. Lars Kepler does a great job of juggling multiple plot lines and escalating the stakes as The Sandman rampages on. The book does not have any super surprising left field twists but it does not really need them either. Everything is working in harmony up until the last quarter of the book when it turns into a pure adrenaline shot in the thigh. Great book to keep you awake on a long car ride.

Lars Kepler has joined my list of favourite authors. The writing style was different from most mystery/thriller books. And the story itself? The story was so good I couldn't stop reading it. Joona Linna is such a great character. The authors haven't James Bond-ed him and that what makes such a lovable character. His sorrow, his love, his mistakes, his guilt; everyone MUST read this book.

Dark, but gripping. I didn’t really like it, but raced through the story. Not sure how well it all came together.

Lars Kepler's "The Sandman" revealed the villain a lot earlier than their previous books. In general, one could say that this whole book's focus was rather on the villain. I found this kind of a shift interesting, because it brought some freshness to the series.
Although one could consider Joona Linna's career so far as "successful", he still has one case that his conscience does not believe is over yet: the case of Jurek Walter, a cold-blooded torturer of those people that have once stood in his way and who has a really good understanding about human psychology. I really loved Saga's POV and backstory: one only gets strong if their life has treated them roughly.

After around 13 years since his kidnapping a young man is found wandering cold and sick, but his sister is still stuck. Saga Bauer has to go undercover and try to get information from serial killer Jurek Walter to save the sister before it's to late.
This was a reread as I have a little project rereading Lars Keplers books. I didn't think I would enjoy this as much the second time around but geez what a book. Still gets under my skin and get me on the edge of my seat!

This book started out slow for me. I wasn’t really invested, but I pushed through and I am so glad I did. The story and the twists kept me up all night reading. This was my first Lars Kepler read and I can’t wait to read more.
