I like Aaron and Gage. Gage is very excitable and a bit needy, which if you read the His Command series and know who his fathers are it explains a lot. I didn't like how the health issue with Bo is almost the entire book and then when we find out what is wrong, the next chapter takes place months later and everything is resolved. I wanted to be part of the entire thing, since we were for almost the entire book and then it has rushed conclusion, it feels like. Other than that, it was a pretty good book.

Watch me regularly complain about this book because it makes me want to strangle something, but the joke's on me because I've read it 3 times at this point RIP

(seriously, I have no idea why this series has its claws in me as deep as it does. It's a problem)

This one felt too absurd for me. I get that Gage was/is young and made a bad decision out of misguided loyalty but.... I wanted to constantly strange him was pretty much shaking my head the entire time while reading. Still not a bad read, the devotion and love between Gage and Aaron was very sweet (though the whole "I kept the fact that we have a child together a secret from you for 4 years because I didn't want to ruin your career" is a huge red flag, especially with the entire supportive and healthy family surrounding both parents.)
I did appreciate the worry and support the surrounding characters felt for the main couple. The red flags were acknowledged by them, if not by the protagonists themselves.

Content warnings include: sex on-page, sex work/camming, one parent not telling the other about the child they have, chronically ill toddler, pulmonary fibrosis, TONS of miscommunication, plans for committing insurance fraud.

This book follows on from the first with another member of the single-dads group.

The whole plot revolves around lying and purposful lack of communication so stay away if that's not your thing.

Otherwise, I enjoyed this book and liked it enough to keep going with the series.

I did not enjoy this. Aaron presented himself as a selfish and irresponsible man who had no business having unprotected sex with a highschooler. Gage was a lovesick idiot who put Aaron above everything, including his own child. Everything was just so ridiculously unrealistic that it was more infuriating than anything. Aaron evolved from selfish prick to selfish jealous prick. And I had no love for any of the characters and therefore could not enjoy the sex scenes.

I think the fact that Piper Scott had them maintain a relationship during the 5 year separation is what ruined the secret baby gimmick for me. Also Knott-My-Problem was the only voice of reason and maybe Gage should've got with him instead.

"TD [Gauge] deserves a fucking man, not a little manlet who can’t hold his tongue long enough not to jump to conclusions."
“If you need to ask that, then maybe you don’t deserve to have Gage back"
“To think that after all that time, seeing the love he had for you, all the tiny, indulgent smiles and the affection in his eyes… it’s hard. It’s hard to have been there beside him as he made sacrifices and stupid decisions for your sake year after year, and harder still to know that you’re already at each other’s throats..."

Second read (why? just why?!) DNF @ 71%

This relationship is so so so unhealthy and the MCs are both dumb (as in, unable to make smart decisions). Gage has a martyr complex (I will suffer for love, because my lover’s PhD matters more than my child’s health) and I don’t get why the whole world blames Aaron (I don’t particularly like him, but Gage made a looooot of stupid decisions, and nobody is talking about how he entered an unhealthy relationship with a teenager and basically brainwashed him - nooooooooo, their love is beautiful and the should stay together forever).
Did I mention that this relationship is seriously unhealthy????!
