These books never cease to surprise me honestly, always suspenseful!

I wasn't sure where the author was going to take this book after the last one in the series. But she did an excellent job of creating suspense while weaving in some of Gwen and her family's history, but adding a new twist and getting one step closer to creating a series that could stand alone. She has set herself up nicely to continue Gwen's story and take it in another direction.

The saga continues

The saga of Gwen Procter continues. As life is once again settling down to “normal” Gwen receives a call for help from a small town. She uses her instincts and know that she needs to help in this town. Her reputation follows her but things evolve and Gwen, Sam and the kids aren’t sure if they will leave Wolfhung alive...
I wasn’t sure where the story would go since Melvin was dead but the store still kept my attention and kept me interested. I am very interested to see how the next books play out. I am beginning to like Lanny and Connor more and more as they are starting to mature and be as tough as their mother.

the writing is 10/10 as usual but not even close to being as fun/thrilling as the first 2 books

3 1/2 stars. The first half of the book was recycling more of the same... the second half was a bit over the top but definitely entertaining. Overall it was my least favorite of the series, yet I still stayed up past my bedtime reading - Rachel Caine does suspense well and it was nice to see how everything tied together. I’m not sure how I feel about the direction the series is taking, part of me wishes it would have remained just two books... but I’m willing to give #4 a read when it’s released.

Still a great story.

Sometimes when the second book ends so well you wonder what could possibly come next. I think Ms. Caine did a great job of furthering the story..there were a few things I was left wondering about that happened in the story but didn't seem to be resolved so I'm curious as to whether there will be a fourth book and if those things will be addressed. Otherwise a great read.

It saddens me to say that I truly did not like this one. I wasn’t sure what I’d be getting myself into with this one because I didn’t love Killman Creek either. The drama in this series is so unbelievable and, honestly, downright exhausting. It was enjoyable in Stillhouse Lake, it was decent in Killman Creek, it was too much in Wolfhunter River. This book felt rushed. I wish the author would have picked one big twist and ran with that, much like the first book, rather than the thousand ridiculous twists thrown into this book. There was just way too much going on this one for it to be enjoyable to me.

I truly stopped caring about the characters in this as well. I found the kids to be irritating and the adults to be worse. Is it so hard to just have an honest conversation with each other?! I get that they have been through a lot but COME ON.

Last but not least, I just didn’t vibe with Caine’s writing style this time. I especially hated Gwen’s inner thoughts. I think I have officially outgrown these characters. I don’t know if there will be more books in this series and frankly, I don’t really care. This is me officially breaking up with this series. We had a good run but I’m cutting ties. I wish you the best, Stillhouse Lake.
