The plot twists and turns like a twisty turny thing, with enough to keep you guessing. Up to a point I really enjoyed this until the last 50 or so pages, when it seemed like a little bit of a cop out in the way that all the different threads were so conveniently explained. Still an enjoyable read, though.

I really loved this book for its complex plot, flawed yet relatable characters and its tense conclusion. The novel seemed determined for me to finish it in one sitting which was no hardship for me!! I was caught up in the tension from the first page and instantly found myself warming to Jim Cutter, the narrator and protagonist. The common factor that I have found in Barclay's novels is his absolutely flawless ability to create and develop a likeable and relatable narrator who is so well-developed that they almost seem real. The opinions, reactions and history of Jim Cutter were fleshed out and so well explained that I warmed to him immediately and stayed hooked to his plight.

The plot itself was twisty and unexpected and really quite thrilling right until the end. While many of the characters were flawed (and a few downright insane) somehow Barclay makes you really care for them. I was hooked from the start and thought this was a really well-deserving 5 stars.

This is a very silly book, that the screwup son became an ear witness to a serious try crime. He gets away unnoticed, but is scared to tell his parents, because screwups gotta screw things up I guess. The rest of the book watches how the police solve the crime, the great and the good of the town manage the town (the father is a gardener, but also drives for the mayor), and how the neighbour’s family cope with things, when their son becomes a suspect.

The book wasn’t bad, it’s just you’re not going to like any of the main characters much, by the end of the story.

I want to attend a college literary festival.

I appreciated the John Irving reference.

Jim mentions spare time while driving the mayor. This reminded me of the father in "Sabrina" who is a chauffeur so he has lots of time to read.

"I wouldn't know them if they stood up in my soup naked."

Tense at the end (as expected), and it all wrapped up well. I enjoy this author's books.

I love a book that I have a hard time putting down. Lots of different threads pull together for one bang-up ending. Really enjoyed this one!

What a great book!
The Langleys are going on vacation for a week so their neighbor Derek Cutter, who is their son`s Adam best friend decides to hide in the house so he can have a 'Love nest' with his girlfriend. Unfortunately, Mrs. Langley is not feeling well and they come back a few hours later. Derek, afraid to be founf out, decides to hide until the coast is clear. Too bad for him, someone knoks on the door and kills the Langleys. Who wants them dead and why are the Cutters involved in this?

The suspense was right on. The story was moving at the right pace. A page turner!
