This was a really good book. I really liked the layered mystery of it and the constant feeling that something was wrong and being hidden, much like Anna felt. Anna was a great character, both flawed and sympathetic. Her struggle in the story to find the truth about Zoe really drew me in. I liked the surprise podcast element to the story, as a big fan of true crime podcasts Zoe’s disappearance made total sense as a feature story for one. The reveals were well timed and made sense for the story.
This book really redeemed my opinion of Frick’s writing after having read one that was disappointing.

Let me first put on a disclaimer that I am a huge YA thriller/ whodunnit enthusiast and am always scrambling for my next read. But the thing with a YA thriller is that they turn out to be quite polar : you either love it completely or you absolutely don't get it at all!

And with I KILLED ZOE SPANOS, I'd very much like to say it was the latter and I adored it so much. I rarely weep when I read and this one turned me into a wreck of emotions. The plot revolves around Anna, who is trying to start her life anew and for that she moves into the Hampton's and takes the job a summer house nanny. The Hampton's known for the lavishness and exoticness has it's own slice of secrets to spare. The story takes quite a turn when Anna stumbles upon a podcast by a local resident and learns that, around six months ago, Zoe Spanos, her doppelganger, a resident of the Hampton's went missing and hasn't been found till date. And as the story proceeds we see how Anna's tumultuous and wavering past coincides with the lies and deceits surrounding the disappearance of Zoe.

This plot-oriented thriller takes you into a ride of emotions with every twist it takes and the roller coaster doesn't stop until the story ends and even then you cannot help but feel for both Zoe and Anna.

Thanks to Simon and Schuster Canada and Netgalley for providing an e-arc for review. I really liked the idea of a young adult murder mystery - our protagonist takes a Summer job in the Hamptons where she looks just like a girl who went missing 6 months before. Somehow she gets wrapped up in the world of the missing girl and confesses to her murder. But, did she do it? I enjoyed the unravelling of the story, but it did have me confused in some parts right up until the very end. I enjoyed it - it's not as racy or salacious as most adult murder mysteries and I think I had that in the back of my mind so I might have expected a little bit more from the story. But, it was a good easy read and is perfect for the Summer!

Honestly, I think I would have liked this a lot more if I hadn’t read AGGGTM. It’s kind of the same story honestly but this one wasn’t as good or exciting for me. The beginning was so slow and boring and I just didn’t connect with the characters really. It has the podcast just like AGGGTM and the whole sister killing sister trope at the end and idk I just think it’s been done one too many times for this book to receive a higher rating. Anna was kind of annoying, I didn’t like Martina or Aster. I didn’t like Anna’s friends or her family idk. It just wasn’t my favorite.

With all that said, I didn’t hate it. I read it in a day so it obviously interested me enough to keep reading. The writing wasn’t bad or anything, I just think the story here has been told a lot already.

Wow, just wow! So many twists and turns. If you have the opportunity to listen to this book, do it! The performance is fantastic: the podcast, news updates and different perspectives are perfectly done!

First off I was In a bit of a reading slump when I first started this and this book definitely pulled me out of it. This fun paced YA thriller takes you on a journey to the remote islands of the rich were Anna is hired to be the nanny for the Bellamy family. This is perfect timing Anna wanted to get away from the city and all her bad decisions. Anna soon finds her self confessing to murder and try’s to remember what truly happens on Herron Mills the past New Years Eve she can’t shake the she has been to this island before and has seen the girl who disappeared into the night that she thought made happen.

I was expecting a lot more from this book based on the multiple good reviews and mentions on Tik Tok. This book should have been a DNF for me. I struggled to get through page after page. I didn't care about any of the characters, I was bored with each storyline and I wasn't buying these missing memories. Even with only 60 pages left, I almost skipped ahead to the end. The only reason I didn't give up was that I had wasted enough time with this that I wanted to know who did it and how it ended. Unfortunately, even that left me unsatisfied.

This book was recommended to me after I read Sadie by Courtney Summers a couple of weeks ago. I listened to it on Audible due to the podcast aspect. I’m really glad I did! It definitely kept me guessing. I couldn’t quite solve the puzzle. It kept twisting and turning. This is a great, solid read.

overall, an entertaining read but i was disappointed by the ending. wish it had been a bit more unhinged? it felt like it was leading up to something crazy and then just ended up being a little sad.
