I loved this book, my only complaint is that it says Rafe doesn't love mischief but I think its more he forgot how fun it could be before Thea entered his life. Other than that nothing is wrong with this book. I read it because I love the HEA you get from historical romances and sometimes you just need to know you getting a win in the end. But this was not a typical historical romance (though I love those as well). It was deep and soulful. It had backstory and emotional anguish. It had a witty female lead that is to clever for her own good and Rafe is to good at tormenting himself. The banter between them has you giggling out loud every few minutes, when the heart wrenching isn't making you want to hug them. This is a rereader for sure!

This book is sort of a mess- part Gothic, part farce, so many tropes enemies to lovers/forced proximity/fake relationship etc etc. But the characters are bright and specific and for all the mess I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Far more conventional than the author's debut novel, yet still well-written and engaging het historical romance. Both romantic protagonists are out to fool/swindle the other by engaging in what they believe will be a false marriage. But along the way, the two end up falling for one another. The plotline ambles and twists to little purpose; the tone and style more closely echo the current sillier type of regency romance (jokes about "earl's school"?!?) than the wit and verve of Vincy's first book. Here's hoping that this one was rushed out without much editing, instead of edited to fit the current market—Vincy deserves much better than being forced into such a limiting mold...

“She eyed him defiantly. “I rather like the idea of a man swooning over my ankles.” “If he swoons over your ankles, he won’t be good for much else. I assure you, they are not your most interesting feature.”

Ok the banter in this series is so well done, I loved all of it! This book focused on a surely, grumpy, kind hearted Earl who lost his wife years prior, and a Merchants daughter whose reputation was ruined due to bold faced lies told by sons of the ton, and who pretends to be her sister so that her sister can elope with the man she loves with no one being the wiser.

This is a strangers to lovers, fake identity, invalid marriage, grumpy-sunshine Historical Romance that I devoured in a day and a half. I blew through the series of 4 books in a maybe of maybe 5 days. Highly recommend!

I loved this book for its lighthearted sense of humour. There are some serious and sad things in each of the main characters’ pasts, but the book’s tone is quite fun regardless.

The two main characters are very likeable. I was glad it wasn’t a love/hate type of thing. The hero starts off gruff but it is quickly evident to the reader that he is not such a grump and loves the vivacity of the heroine. They pretend to be disinterested in each other, but it’s not a bickering relationship.

Super quick read, made me laugh, the plot is a typical silly kind of Regency romance, but I had such a good time reading it. The dialogue is great, and the heroine’s comments are constantly delightful. She has a tragic past but really is the type of character that is determined to make the best and thrive, so I loved that.

I enjoyed the part of the book where secrets are revealed and the reaction to it. There was only one part that I found dissatisfying but I won’t go into it because of spoilers.

This is my second Mia Vincy and I enjoyed this one MUCH more than the other one I read.

I think you can also read it as standalone and don’t have to read the rest of the series if you don’t want to.

I didn’t know what to think in the first chapter with so many names mentioned, but it really was quite fun! The banter was excellent.

This is my first book by this author and for the most part, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thea got on my nerves a bit near the end, but she redeemed herself. Lots of humor and emotion. 5 stars!

Next I’m planning to read “A Wicked Kind of Husband,” which to my understanding, is actually the real first book of the series.
