This book was impossibly adorable. It almost felt like a coming of age novel, only the age is 30 LOL. Alex gets drunk one night and basically uproots her entire life and flips it upside down. She wasn't entirely happy with her life anyway, so she just runs with it. Upon moving to NYC, Alex embarks on this amazing journey of self discovery and finds plenty of love and friendship along the way. This book was more well rounded than I anticipated. While it does have friendship and steamy relationships and plenty of love, it's also largely about Alex finding herself and growing in to the person that she's meant to be all along, without anyone, especially her family, holding her back. I really really loved the chemistry between Alex and Michael. It was very much a delicious slow burn. When the big *thing* happened, even though I predicted it happening, I was absolutely floored. I won't give it away, but it took me a few days to get back in to it because I was so mad about the whole thing! I'm glad I came back though because clearly I was mad for no reason. While I love to read about real life sometimes, if this *thing* played out how I thought it was going to, my heart would've been completely broken. Overall, this happily ever after ended pretty happily. I love this book because Alex was able to find not only herself, but also a career, friends, and love all while not sacrificing herself and her hopes and dreams. I love that this book managed to be funny, sweet, sexy, steamy, romantic, and just feel good all around. This was a good read for sure. I'm interested to see how the rest of this series goes.

Alex is getting over a break-up and the relentless disappointment of her parents by moving to NYC and pursuing a career as a writer. Amid the mayhem of the big city, she finds friends, work, and even a grumpy single dad neighbor struggling with his own family drama.

Michael was a great love interest, a good dad trying his best to focus on his son. The secondary characters (roommate, gay boss, elderly neighbor, long-distance sister, and even the nemisis) were all really great characters, and I definitely enjoyed the allies won and battle fought for Alex.

And the steamy scenes were excellent!

What I didn't like was Alex herself so much. She drinks a lot, and several major plot points depended on her getting so drunk she doesn't remember things. She can also be very unprofessional in situations where I just wanted to smack her and say "ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT!".

There is lovely prose, and the reader cant help but fall in love WITH New York alongside Alex.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars well deserved. Why does Goodreads not get on board with half stars already? Anyway......
I loved this one. It was cute, and such a perfect Autumn romcom situated in my favorite city, New York.
Alex wakes up after a drunken birthday night and comes to find out she's been dumped by Travis the guy she thought was the one again. She's also quit her job as assistant manager of the town bookstore and bought a ticket to New York City to become a writer.
Laugh out loud hilarious, the journey begins with so many bright spots and so much disappointment for Alex but she's determined to make this work even if kills her.
There are so many delightful moments in this book that it would be so hard to explain how amazing and hilarious this read is. If you enjoy romcoms, sexy hero's and New York city as a side character you'll enjoy this one. I definitely recommend any romance fans to pick this up immediately.

Love In The City • Jen Morris ⭐️ - 4 stars

I have been seeing the Love in the City series EVERYWHERE on bookstagram and thought it was finally time to start it! I really enjoyed Alex and Michael’s story and thought they were great together! I loved seeing New York through Alex’s eyes! And this friend group is amazing! I can’t wait to read more about them and I’m hoping that we will get a Geoff story!

Couldn't sleep and had a sickish kid; this was an amusing middle of the night read. A little uneven but promising. Look forward to the second one.

Can someone please slap me for waiting so long to read this book? Seriously, slap me.

I really loved that everything starts immediately right from the very first page - we immediately meet Alex, find out what her dreams and aspirations are, and how her family isn't entirely supportive of what she wants to do with her life. I found Alex extremely relatable - she might be from somewhere else entirely in the world, but she's someone who works in a bookstore and aspires to write (which I do too!) so reading about her struggles and how she starts working towards her dreams was super enjoyable while also pretty inspiring (I might be back to working on my own WIP now...*eyes emoji*).

Michael has officially made it to my personal Hall of Fame for Book Boyfriends. He's in his early forties, a divorced father , and a writer himself - and he's an absolute dreamboat, even when he's being kind of a grump. (If you know me at all, you know that I am an absolutely SUCKER for a bit of a grouchy hero who's soft for the heroine).

The book had everything else I love in a romance novel- great female friendships, so many heart-warming romantic moments.... and oh my god. THE SPICE. It was just the right amount of spice and sexual tension - and for anyone out there who thinks consent spoils the mood, this book is living proof that verbal consent can be extremely sexy.

Overall, a really fantastic romance book. It gave me exactly what I was looking for - fun characters, insane chemistry between the lead and the love interest, some spice, and of course there was some awesome friendship dynamics too!

Turning thirty and getting dumped for not living outside her comfort zone Alex drunkenly decides to quit her job and relocate from New Zealand to New York. Looking to finally pursue her dream of being a writer. Arriving in New York she has issues with her accommodation and bumps, literally, into a handsome, yet grumpy New Yorker.

Managing to find a place to crash and a dead beat job she isn't quite living the dream but she is at least trying. Michael the guy from the coffee shop keeps appearing in her life and still appears grumpy no matter what she does. Somewhere along the line, she manages to gain a better job and starts writing a blog about being a single woman in New York. Highlighting the good, the bad and the ugly. However, with things improving with Michael can she really give up her dream of writing for a chance at a happy ever after?

A funny read, taking you on a journey of self-discovery and chasing after dreams.

I really wanted to like this novel more. It could have a been a great story of falling in love with New York, friendship, and finding the love of your life. I feel like if there was more detail and character development it would have been great! The relationship moved along so fast that I feel like I didn’t get to know the characters.
