I enjoyed the characters and appreciated the triumph of the female protagonist. She is a strong character who comes into her own and uproots expectations over the course of her story. I did find some parts of the narrative challenging to follow but perhaps that just because I'm new to the genre and unfamiliar with some of the fantasy references. I would recommend this book to others who enjoy the fantasy fic genre.

As a not so romantasy girlie, parts one and two were slow for me to get into BUT after that halfway mark???? Oh baby, I was in that. Finished this book on the bus, immediately walked to the nearest library in search for book two. This is the type of series that I needed as a young black book worm. SO needed, so essential, SO GOOD

I struggled a little bit switching to audiobook and kept tuning out part of it. The switched Tarisai made between memories of others was so abrupt and I didn't always realize it was happening.
Also this being YA Fantasy was a bit of a struggle for me.
I like the way the book ended setting it up for the next book and I'll definitely read that one.
