This book positively surprised me! I hadn’t really heard anything about it so I didn’t quite know what to expect but it was so engaging, the plot was exciting, and the characters were interesting.
Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a ya fantasy duology!

Characters: Tarisai's character development left me confused! She goes from naive to warrior in a chapter, and to me her motivations were rushed and underdeveloped.
Atmosphere: I loved the world, and the system the world exists in was well thought out. I appreciated the history lessons throughout the story, and I felt that by the end I wanted to travel through every realm myself.
Writing: I felt like I was reading from a 17 year old. Not in a bad way, just in the fact that the writing was very conversational and youthful... I liked it at moments, and grew annoyed at other moments.
Plot: I mean, I personally felt like there were too many plot points. In the end I think everything came together, but there were so many moving parts that it was hard to be invested in some of the storylines because we were immediately swept into five other conflicts.
Intrigue: The more I read, the more intrigued I became.
Logic: Some things were glossed over so quickly that it was completely illogical. I felt like especially at the end every point was rushed to the conclusion that major points of character development were hardly clarified and it left my disbelief unbearable.
Enjoyment: I personally would have preferred this as a series of short stories that were more episodic. There was so much going on from the rich culture and world building to the character development and conflicts, that I was left underwhelmed by everything. I didn't hate the book, and it definitely became more palatable at the end.
