Reread: I’m still so in love with this book. I’m going to boldly say MY FAVORITE BOOK EVER, under Harry Potter but that’s only because of the nostalgia that HP holds. I love all the characters, there were so many highs and lows, and amazing world building. There’s nothing I don’t like about this book. SO EXCITED TO READ THE SEQUEL NOW
WHY ARE MORE PEOPLE NOT SCREAMING ABOUT HOW GOOD THIS BOOK IS?!!?!?
- very well written and very well rounded
- ethnic, magical, with a heathy dose of life lessons

Parts of this were a little slow, but overall I enjoyed it.
This book is a delight! Engaging characters, compelling story line, and the relationship between the main character and her mother was so well written.
Excellent fantasy story for YA and people who love good, compelling stories.

My goodness this was amazing. A success debut novel of such a young female author that I am impressed and awed. I don't know the author and I'm proud of her. The characters and story were so brilliantly written. I enjoyed every minute of it.

I went into this with too many specific expectations that were left unfulfilled. I felt that the relationship between the council siblings was heavily underexplored, and at times the story felt rushed. But in terms of diversity and creativity, this was one of the best YA novels I've ever read and it left me wanting more.
