Really beautiful!

Since the end of the Harry Potter is here, some of us have a need of magical worlds, well written universes and new stories that also don't hold all that hate that saga had (racism, sexism, serophobia, antisemitism, etc).

This is a perfect story to read and it also has all this wonder we miss, it also has social justice in its core. Frustrating at the beginning but hang in there with the protagonist, it's totally worth it!

Good read y'all :)

i think i should just read it physically & when it’s warm

This book was incredible. I can't wait to give it to my daughters when they're ready. What a world Jordan Ifueko has created. What a main character. If you liked Earthsea, you're probably going to enjoy this book.
adventurous

Misheard the audiobook and thought that Kathleen was a humanoid cat woman à la the Khajit in Skyrim. Probably because I wasn't listening as attentively as I should've — would've been more interesting if
SpoilerTarisai killed Prince Dayo
, but that'd be a different novel altogether and at this point I'm just being a hater. Still, it's a solid debut.

I LOVED THIS BOOK.
adventurous challenging emotional hopeful inspiring reflective sad fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I don't even think I can put into words how much I love this book. This might have just become my favorite of all time. Jordan Ifueko's writing is so beautiful and I'm so attached to all of these characters, especially Tarisai and Sanjeet.

I will immediately be reading Redemptor.

I’m not usually one for fantasy, but this one feels different. And usually with fantasy, you get a nice Eurocentric type story with dragons and wizards and elves and fae… this story is written with heavy African influences. It is beautiful! There’s a LOT going on (the book is in 4 parts!!), and it’s definitely the start of a series, but I am hooked enough to read more.

still deciding between 4.5 and 5 but omg what a ride

definitely a lot to take in but this world is so incredible and i cannot wait to see what will happen in the sequel
