I'm not typically into mafia-type romances, but this one is exceptionally well written and not at all what I was expecting. I found myself captivated by Parker S. Huntington's writing and her characters, and look forward to reading the remainder of the series.

Poor choice of narrator plus an immature FMC made for a hard book to listen to.

I'm a mafia girly HOWEVER this romance was as exciting as watching paint dry. These two had very little chemistry and I am now bitter and annoyed.

The main character, Lucy, is basically Little Einstein. She reminds us this the entire book saying she's gorgeous and smart. I love female characters who are confident, but instead of her constantly telling us this in the first 15% at least 3 times, I wanted to see that through her actions. We couldn't do that though because for most of the book absolutely nothing happened. Lucy was bullshitting around at college while Asher was out doing his little mafia stuff, but neither of these were things we got to dive too deeply into.

I feel robbed that we didn't get a POV from Asher because he could have been a good character if he was developed further. He wasn't as possessive as other mafia heroes which I was thankful for. If the author could have dived deeper into who he was and gave more of a backstory, we could figure out why that it is because he lives in a world that isn't always kind to women. Somehow though, Asher was a cinnamon role mafia boss? He didn't seem all that dangerous despite the author always mentioning how dark and dangerous he was.

If you want a mafia romance that follows the same tropes as other mafia books in the exact same, unoriginal way, this might be your book. I found it to be dull and a disappointing read.

This book was a refreshing and interesting take on mafia romances. A lot of mafia romances I read are so serious but Huntington was able to add in humor to the story that added a little something to it. Oh my word, did I thoroughly enjoy Asher Black, the story and the man. I loved his ruthlessly and vulnerability. I loved his protectiveness. I loved his sweetness. I loved the strength he brought out of Lucy, who turned out to be a bad ass in her own way. Simply put, the man just swooned me to the floor. This is my first book by Parker S. Huntington and I’m already excited to go back for more.

4 stars

This book was good, but not great. The storyline was good and had a ton of potential, but I didn’t feel any of the relationship building on Asher’s side. Seems like feelings were just there, but it didn’t feel organic to me. It also could have done with a lot more drama and angst. Things were far too easy.

This is my second book by this author, both have been 5 stars. The story is just addicting. I want to keep reading and find out what is going to happen next. I really liked Lucy, I liked watching her come out of her shell and be herself. Archer was also great because he was sweet and caring but not overbearing and clingy like some MMC’s tend to be. But he still came across like a badass so I thought it worked really well. I can’t wait to read more !

I have read other books from this author but this one just didnt do it for me and it fell flat. I didnt feel the connection with the characters. I liked them individually Asher more than Lucy but together they didnt connect for me which made the book not as enjoyable. Plus some of the ideas just seemed really unrealistic even for a book for me to enjoy since this isnt a fantasy book lol.
