I consider myself part of the loyal legion of fans who would always check Allie Brosh's blog of the same name and hope there was a new post, which in the past few years there seldom was. However, this book that served as a 'best of' of her stories interspersed with humor, reflection, and charming child-like drawings-- along with a number of new stories. The way she describes her journey with trying to overcome depression is at the same time saddening and uplifting-- a testament to her accurate descriptions of depression. If you read her blog at all, you'll love the book. If you've never read her blog-- I'd start there before diving into the book to see if her style suits you.

Delightful. If you have read the website, you will realize that about 1/2 of the content has been previously published. BUT, WHO CARES? Because this book is AMAZING. Just read it. And when people at soccer practice give you funny looks because you are snorting and shaking in your seat, just IGNORE them.

I had laughed out loud by page 6, which is awesome! But most of my favorite stories were the ones I'd already read on her website. She strikes a great balance in dealing with emotional topics with humor. Enjoyed it, and it's worth a read.

I used to love Allie Brosh’s blog and this was a fun trip down memory lane. However the glossy pages picked up glare easily and hurt my thirty-something eyes.

I really enjoyed this, with both hilarious stories about dogs and geese to more somber anecdotes about depression & identity. It was a very quick read but highly entertaining. I wish the blog was still active because I think I would get a kick out of reading more.

What a writer! Such an engaging writing style and voice. I wish I coulda given it 5 stars … But by the second half, the author’s self-loathing was getting uncomfortable. I mean, I’m all for a dose of self-deprecating humour, but it felt like more than good-natured ribbing turned inward. It felt like outta control emotional self-harm in extreme close-up. The tragedy of it kinda made my stomach churn.
I really want to read her more recent book, and likely will. She’s observant and insightful and original and FUNNY! Oh, and her illustrations are BANG ON. But I do hope The Real Her actually likes herself a more than her stories suggest.

I've had a soft spot for these stories since they were blog entries. Honest in a charmingly blunt way.
