At some points, I couldn't tell if the author was referring to Alice or someone else. It dragged. It took ages to crest the hills and the story line got blurry a few times. Gave up before I got too deep/annoyed.

Okay okay okay, FIRST OF ALL, I’m gonna say that I have never smiled through a whole book before. None that I can remember! 😂 This book was magnificent! And funny! And ADORABLE! I squealed a lot. Alice is so relatable! She is literally me. SHE IS ME! Like, she works in a library, loves to write about her favorite shows, looooves romance, HAS KINKY CURLY HAIR THAT IS BOMB AF, and she just stole my heart as soon as I flipped this book open.

SHE IS BLACK, QUEER AND UNAPOLOGETIC. 👏🏼👏🏼 I’m so happy i picked this book up, I never knew much about the asexual part of the lgbtq+ community and this book opened my eyes a bit. There’s so much to learn! 😍 This book is so lovely and fills my heart with ALL the good feelings when I see black girls on covers and positively portrayed in books. I didn’t see it a lot when I was a teenager, but seeing it now makes me feel so good. 😭

TAKUMI! Wow did I love me some him. He’s so kind and knows how to properly communicate. 😂 I can’t recall how many times characters in other books would have a falling out and I would literally scream out loud, 🗣”IF YALL DONT TALK THIS SHIT OUT AND BE PATIENT WITH EACH OTHER!” 😂 Like literally.

I loved being apart of their journey getting to know each other. It was so sweet, slightly cringy at times and then oh so sweet at the end... Is that a spoiler? 🤔 Nah, I don’t think so, lol. I’m definitely buying a copy of this book, okay? I need to have my own copy. If I could give this a 10/10 I would, lol. 🤷🏽‍♀️💛

A 3.5 really! When on earth will we be able to give half-star ratings!

I wish I had liked this more than I did -- I absolutely LIVED FOR the premise, and I really really really appreciated all the different kinds of love present in this book. You have sweet romantic love, deep strong platonic love, complicated family love -- more books could use such a diverse depiction! And more books could use a PROPER PERSPECTIVE ON ASEXUALITY!!! Like!!! What a good thing!

Unfortunately, the timing of the book felt weirdly off to me, like we'd skip whole weeks and events and just be expected to fill in the gaps afterwards. And sometimes the dialogue felt... weirdly stilted, I guess? Which is why this isn't a full four stars for me.

But really, if you want to learn more about asexuality and you want to read about the different ways we can have families, check this out. I'm definitely keeping my eyes peeled for more from Claire Kann since there is a lot of great potential there!

This wasn’t terrible but I didn’t love it. It was cute. I won’t comment on the ace rep since I have no personal experience in that area but I was glad that Alice was able to accept herself, in the end.

At times this felt more high school than college to me. Many of the problems could have been solved with some good old fashioned communication and understanding. Then to top it off things were said and done that were petty and immature and while their was reconciliation, it just seemed like all was forgiven because that was more convenient than staying angry.

I disliked Alice’s mom and sister. Alice’s sister was a bully and had no redeeming qualities. Her mom seemed like she cared more about what she wanted and how Alice’s choices would make her look, than she was about her own child’s happiness. I mean what’s the harm in going to school and then potentially getting a job in a career you won’t like as long as the parents look good? Alice’s brother and dad were only slightly better.

I also didn’t like how when Alice finally figured things out, she made a very broad statement to a person she cared about, then got upset when he needed to think things through. I get that she had been hurt in the past, but you’re asking someone to accept you, while at the same time rejecting them because they didn’t respond with the correct response quick enough. They both had to make adjustments and understand where the other was coming from.

I can see how this book would/could be important for ace representation but I do think some of the other flaws overshadow it.

This book somewhat disappointed me. I had really high hopes for it but they were a little over the top. The plot was good and I enjoyed the characters but I guess the cursing bothered me. I also felt like it dragged.
