A truly incredible work, so many affected people, so much sadness, anger, heroism and loss. I was struck by how many people likened the accident to a war as they had no other frame of reference.
It had the best ending of any non-fiction I've ever read. This is definitely going to stay with me and has already made me question so much. 4.5 stars.

This is among the best books I have ever read. It is an invaluable record of firsthand accounts of those who lived through the Chernobyl disaster – their lives, losses, confusion, dreams, regrets, anger, and deaths.

I actually started reading this book back in 2015 but I had to put it down because I was finding it too heavy.
The book contains a collection of stories and reflections from people involved and affected by the Chernobyl disaster. Alexievich does a superb job at portraying the emotion felt by these people, from extreme fear to an unnerving peace.
This was not a fun read but there was beauty in the sorrow. I’d definitely recommend it.
