Curiosity must’ve gotten
the best of me.
I like some of Halsey’s music.
Badlands,
Manic,
The Great Impersonator.
So I wanted to read between the lines.
I should’ve known,
Should’ve heeded the warning.
Saw the Goodreads reviews
Even years back.
Some poems have potential,
Just need a little cleaning up,
A little polish to make them
truly shine.
A lot seemed to come from
random phone typing sessions,
Sentences cut up into
Fragments,
“Verses”

So here’s my honest review.
(I’ll still be listening to her music, though.)

I loved the art in the cover. Some poems I enjoyed some made my heart hurt for her, with her.

iknow im biased bc this is halsey, and im literally in love with her SO!!
i dont really read poetry and idk anything about the “correct way of poetry” or if there’s such thing so i can’t judge her writing quality i guess?? but halsey always speaks to me, especially with her songs...so this book is special for me and the connection is there and thats why i picked it up anyway so!!

There are some absolutely phenomenal poems in this collection that are dulled by cliched and empty lines. Even with the hits and misses, it's worth reading just for pieces like "Summer Fruit."
It always amazes me how powerful poetry can be and how so few words can evoke so many emotions.
I thought starting with “Due Date” set the tone perfectly. Although, reading “Lighthouse” and “Painter” back to back left me with a feeling I was not prepared for.
Honestly, this collection is messy, poorly sequenced at times, and full of chaos and trauma (& some explicit content, which might not be for everyone), BUT I’d say it is still worth the read.
Two of my favorites were “Everything” & “Fun Girl”.

An enjoyable poetry collection. If you like Halsey’s music then you’ll like the way they write poetry as it has similar themes and a similar structure (a couple of the poems have even been put into songs in her later albums).
