it was fine. i enjoyed it as a lite teen fiction read. it was generally pretty tropey and predictable, and i didn’t like either of the guys in it from the start. there was also quite a bit of weird queer-baitey commentary. but it handled race very well and was a fun short read. i read it as a library book and it’s not something i’m thinking about rereading so i probably won’t buy it.
"[she looked forward to her future] and she ran to meet it" is the PERFECT way to end a wonder woman novel. I can't believe Batman was ever my favorite. You can bet I'll be picking up the latest in all things wonder woman during my next trip to the comic book store! Everything about this book was perfect. Yes, I called a few things that happened well before they did, but Bardugo basically wagged her finger in my face, pulled back a curtain, and said "but did you see THIS coming!?" And by golly I sure didn't. I love Diana. She is my hero. And I think Bardugo did her justice. =) 10/10 this book goes on the favorites rack. Oh, and I'll be needing to buy it too...
BRILLIANT! Wonder Woman fans must read. Different from the movie but still a solid, independent chapter in the myth.

I need more, Bardugo. Give me more Diana.

DC are just really ramping up the pressure on Marvel this year. First the most awesome Wonder Woman movie out there, followed up by this excellent novel by YA author Leigh Bardugo. I can't wait for the Batman, Catwoman and Superman novels in the same vein, also written by popular YA authors. It could be time for Marvel to up their game.
What I really enjoyed about this novel is that it could be considered a pre-lude to the film without actually paying homage to it. Bardugo's Wonder Woman and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman are both extremely strong, honourable women who want to do what is right for the world putting others above themselves and doing what is right, even if it seems wrong.
This is where Diana steps into her birthright and becomes the woman we know her to be. Well written and bringing Diana into the modern age of this world, Bardugo introduces us to someone really special who we can't help but love and cheer on in her journey. Alia, a mortal, is a believable character for Diana to team up with and the friendship that grows from this adventure is quite lovely to watch.
This book is great for fans of Leigh Bardugo, fans of Wonder Woman and the fans of the DC Universe.

This story of Diana Prince was probably the most fascinating origin story I've ever heard of this character. While powerful, she is not known as the mightest and while beautiful by modern standards, she is viewed with content throughout her whole life.
Rather than limit her to old war stories that the movies and animation portray, we have modern day fish out of water tale, with more diversity, creative characters and higher stakes as Diana must prove herself and save her friends, family, and the world. I adored this story and the ramping up was awesome. Highly recommend for superhero fans and fans of the character.

I really liked Nim a lot and Theo too. I think I enjoyed their characters even more than Aila, who, honestly was somewhat frustrating. That being said, she grows a lot during the story and I really appreciated that growth. Diana was written so perfectly and I really enjoyed her character too. Now onto my issues: I was actually really glad Jason ended up being evil because when he sprouted that anti-vaxxer crap I was like HOLD TF UP. That being said, I sort of felt like Diana’s relationship with him was forced. She’s just way too cool for him. Additionally, I didn’t like that Theo and Aila ended up together. It just felt so forced and like a step back in their character growth. Lastly, the story didn’t really address what happened to all those cults after the spring? Like did they just know that everything was hunky dory? . Diana’s friendship with Aila ended up so wholesome and strong, which was probably my favorite thing about the book. also the absolute horror of having gods take over your body was an excellent touch

This had a lot less action than I was expecting, especially in the first half. I liked all the characters but I didn't find the friendship between Alia and Diana as strong as I was expecting. The ending was kind of unsatisfying because there was no conclusion to the tension and lack of acceptance Diana felt with the other Amazons, which was the main conflict of the first few chapters. Overall it's not at all a bad book, but it's not what I expected and I was a bit disappointed.
