I actually can't stop reading these. I thought I'd get bored with so many, but as each brothers lives are so different, you don't feel overwhelmed with the idea the story went too long. I WANT to know what happens to each of them... I loved knowing Phury's story to finding love, battling his demons from the past, and of course his drug addiction. I felt absolutely ecstatic when he went through his changing moment in the Other Side. And I'm feeling JM and Xhex.
An old character makes a comeback much to everyone's surprise. And I'm now left hoping Quinn shuts up and falls for the person who loves him in this book.

Out of all of the wonderful brothers, Phury is definitely my least favourite.
Phury, well he’s a hot mess, but in a serious-mental-health-problems way and not in the standard I-have-a-mysterious-backstory kinda way. Now while I know that learning about mental health and its significant impact on people lives is important, but it’s not something I normally look for in my hot vampire romances. I want him making googly eyes at his woman and trying to get in her panties – instead he just ignores her. Like seriously, he ignores her. For ages. She’s probably better off.
I also didn’t appreciate how the rest of his ‘brothers’, including his actual blood brother, tell him to man on up, pull himself together and just get over his drug addiction. Because that’s how it works right? I realise that this is a stereotypically ‘manly’ way of dealing with mental illness, but this is not support.
I like Cormia more in this book and enjoyed her exploration of the human/vampire world. I suppose the Chosen aren’t really supposed to have much of a personality, so seeing her sweetness come out more through the book was nice enough. I just felt that Ward totally missed the boat by having all of her experiences with John, and not Phury – this could have been a great opportunity for Cormia and Phury to get to know each other more and for her to give him a realistic way to recover from his addiction.
A very large chunk of the book is made up of John’s storyline, which interesting, he’s not supposed to be the main character. Neither is Revhenge, or Xhex, or Quinn, or Blaylock. They are key components of the book, but they didn’t need quite so much space.
Now the reason I don’t like this book is not because of the writing, but because Ward did Phury a major dirty. She turned him in a self-pitying, wallowing drug addict with no purpose in this book other than to buy drugs; she gave so little room for the two LEAD CHARACTERS to develop any romance or chemistry.

I'm not sure where to even start with this one other than to say it was not good. I wanted Phury to come out of his celibate shell and be all bossy and alpha. I was very disappointed. I was happy with the ending of the book but that is about all. This felt more like a book where you are getting a lot of backstories and plots are being set up for future books (which isn't a bad thing) but I wanted more Cormia and Phury. They were hardly together and didn't communicate very much.

Phury is dealing with his drug addiction. He has lost control with his Red Smoke and he does want Cormia but can't seem to get anything right.

Cormia is dealing with feeling out of place. She is finding everything on the "other side" fascinating and not wanting to go back to the chosen.
What else can I say? Phury's book just didn't live up to my BDB badass alpha standards.

This book had less of the romantic spiel of things. Not as much happened between Cormia and Phury as did the other couples, HOWEVER this book opened up the story lines to at least five more books if not more. I mean Qhuinn and Blay, Vishious' twin, Tohr, John and that girl whoms name I cannot recall, Rhevenge, LASH! I mean so many possibilities only so many books to read before I'm caught up and have to wait till I get to the next book. These books are like heroin. Addicting and life consuming.
Currently rereading this after years. I remember having fond memories of Phury and Cormia’s romance, and overall being surprised by how much I liked their story. But now that I’m reading their chapters only, skipping all the other POVs, I’m realizing how little we get of them in the book. Few interactions, few meaningful conversations… most important moments actually happen when they are separated and thinking about their situation… I’m 65% in so I hope things pick up between them.
So much is clearly happening in the side story with the whole Lash subplot and everything going on with Qhuinn, John, Blay and even Rehv. It seems like most plot is reserved for them while we get mostly dramatic musings from the main couple. I guess in this book we already get a glimpse of what the middle part of this series will become with the odd pacing and infinite pov… just disappointed that I remembered it different.
Also, why is no one actually trying to help Phury when he is struggling so much with his mental health, addiction and literally no will to live? I thought the Brothers were basically a family… and yet it seems like no one gives a shit about Phury this entire book. Even Z saying they are all washing their hands off him. Like, I’m sorry, when has Phury ever been anything but a good friend to y’all. Like, Z got more support through his hardships with Bella, even when people thought he was killing humans for sport and had no soul. But Phury actually struggling while still being a good egg, and no, no one cares about him.

OK, so this is even worse than the previous ones (and it pretends to have a plot!). Especially: WTF that last scene. I mean, the whole series so far has been a lot of WTF, but at least it was the kind of WTF where you understand what kind of cliché and tropes it follows and why it is written this way. But this was just ridiculous in every possible way.
