I was just about to go to bed and I thought "oh right I never finished that one book. I should read a little" A little... Pfft. Where did time go?

Deepens the universe in logical ways and pushes the characters in new directions.

I wish there weren't more books--that the story was tighter and not so long. This is a good story but it's a long one and not my favorite series. It doesn't feel as effortless to read through as some of the other YA series books like Michael Vey & Lockdown.

It's rare that the second in a series is just as good as the first but here we are.

A good sequel to an amazing first book. Cam is a fantastic character and I gasped when they introduced him. This book is not as good as the third, however. The introduction to Miracolina was a good idea but I feel like she didn’t learn anything at the end of it.
It bothered me that Lev was the one the thank her and have some sort of revelation about himself as a character. I wish it was the other way around and Miracolina was the one to thank Lev. It would have developed her as a character as well as Lev. Especially since they just left that church and Lev saved Miracolina from Nelson.
Cam was the only big development that I enjoyed from the book (
though the raid at the Graveyard was great too
). Everything else kind of felt like set up for the third book.

Rounding up. Honestly, I enjoyed this sequel. It wasn't mind-blowing or anything but it was a solid sequel to an odd/interesting story. I decided to read it because I knew I would enjoy it enough to finish it after a long series of DNF's or should-have-DNF's.

The good:
We're getting more answers to the world. One of the reasons I didn't finish Unwind the first time I tried was because it was just a weird premise. It takes a lot to convince me that people would just be okay with killing teens as a compromise to abortion rights. That being said, we're getting more bread crumbs in this one as to why/how that came about.

I really liked the inclusion of Cam. I'm torn on him as a character but that's the point. I think he raises a lot of questions and should make for some interesting answers down the road.

The bad:
Having read the Arc of the Scythe, this book felt more predictable and the characters all the same. All of the characters you've grown to enjoy, some with their own romance plot-lines, all separate and go on an adventure to stick to someone/something that's causing the world to be how it is. Yes, a lot of books do that, but there's something about Shusterman's writing that feels like the same formula series to series. That isn't a bad thing though! Like I said, I decided to sit down and read this one because I knew what I was getting and knew I'd enjoy it. But the main characters are very similar to the MC's of that series. All that's to say, if you're expecting something completely different, this isn't the book for you.

Picking up where UnWind left off, Shusterman has created a riveting second instalment to this trilogy. American society is still deciding on how important the process of unwinding is for its citizens. Meanwhile a new and powerful organization has created a "new" person completely made from part of unwound people and this storyline is deeply disturbing. Connor and Risa have escaped from Happy Jack camp and are committed to saving earmarked teens from being taken away to other camps and have set up a safe haven called "the Graveyard". Lev is still part of the story as he is heralded as a spiritual leader for children who are destined to be tithed. Well-written and full of action and philosophical themes, I highly recommend this novel.

Wow, I think at one point this was only a stand alone book...I am so happy that it is now a trilogy. So well written definitely understand this society better. Love how all the characters come into to play throughout the plot. LOVED! Book three please.
