It took me awhile to remember what was going on in this series. I liked that it answered a lot of questions from the first book, and I enjoyed the adventure that Kira and Samm took, but I honestly didn't really care much about the rest of it.

equally the most brilliant and frustrating book I have read this year. raises many interesting moral questions and provides all sides of the argument allowing the reader to make up their own mind. brilliant.

This is the sequel to Partials, which I remember liking but couldn't remember exact details of. So I jumped into this one hoping I'd catch up. I think I did, but there is probably some stuff from the first book that I've totally forgotten.

I like the story and found myself interested in what was happening to the main characters in this devastated world. I like that they are basically trying to save the human race. However, my gripe is that I kept confusing story lines from this book with other YA dystopian books such as Insurgent and Starters. Which makes me think the ideas aren't original enough to differentiate itself from other similar books.

I'm not sure if it will be worth reading the 3rd book in this series as I can't see it doing much different than almost every other dystopian series.

- Most of the book is very slow with not a lot going on. Kira is mostly by herself, and there is a lot of traveling.

- I almost wanted to quit the book a couple times because NOTHING WAS HAPPENING! I'm glad I stuck with it though. The ending was awesome!

- I like all the characters, but I'm not sure we need all the characters. I don't really care what Marcus is doing. Is he that vital to the story?

- A lot of this book could have been cut, but the ending was worth it.

A good continuation of the series. We get a few more viewpoint characters which i appreciated. A lot of questions raised about what constitutes “using” or “abusing” someone, which is always a good thing to think about. I’m kinda meh on most of it, tbh. Nothing was fantastic but nothing was bad, maybe because I guessed what would happen in most of the plot lines before I read the book. I just want to get to the last book and see what eventually happens! I know they’ll get it to work eventually, but I like the HOW of the journey. So gonna keep listening.

Booklist review:

Grades 8-12. In this sequel to Partials (2012), Wells drops readers right into the action. This is a highly political, post-apocalyptic morality tale where each side sees the other as both threat and salvation. Violent, gory warfare is balanced by a philosophical bioethical dilemma; humanity is teetering on the brink of extinction due to their own blindness in creating genetically modified super soldiers called Partials, who have rebelled against their creators. Partials are dying from a built-in expiration date; humans, from a plague. Kira Walker is a new breed of Partial who may just hold the key to cure both in her DNA. Little backstory and quick-paced alternating points of view make the players and circumstances difficult for newcomers to catch on to, and there are a few jarring anachronistic notes (references to toll roads and quarters although no one has used money in years, for example). But the epic scope and grand adventure will keep readers glued to the page, right up to the cliff-hanger ending, which will leave them screaming for resolution. Osborne, Charli.
