I absolutely loved this book other than the ending. It started to get a little bit weird toward the end but the rest was absolutely WONDERFUL. I felt like I was personally involved in every relationship she experienced. I love when I walk away from a book feeling something deep inside and can compare my own life to that of the main character's.
What the hell was that chapter about a random family in the middle of the book? And did we really need this whole book to come to the moral of the story? Bank should have just left the last chapter as the short story it originally was and discard the rest. Several short stories do not make a coherent novel, which Bank does try to achieve.
Really easy book to read. I was a little confused about its hopping from one point in her life to another. There were many good quotes from the book about growing up and love.
Per essere il romanzo che ha dato al via del genere chick-lit, mi aspettavo qualcosa di molto più classico, e invece mi ha stupito!
Più che un chick-lit, somiglia molto di più agli odierni sad-hot-girl club, ricorda tantissimo Sally Rooney. Ma visto che questo romanzo è uscito negli anni 2000, sarebbe meglio dire che la prosa di Rooney somiglia alla prosa di Bank.
Gli anni non si sentono per niente in questo romanzo: si parla della vita romantica di una ragazza degli USA "bene". Nessuna preoccupazione per il proprio sostentamento, nessun debito che grava sui pensieri della nostra protagonista, vacanze al lago, giri in barca, appartamenti lasciati da zie ben inserite nella società newyorkese, frequentazioni con scrittori, finanzieri e tanto altro.
Spero di avervi dato l'idea, capisco bene come mai sia stato ristampato: non è per niente invecchiato.
La protagonista - rispetto ad altre della sua categoria - mi è rimasta molto simpatica, divertente e poco piagnucolosa.
La vicenda è narrata come una sequenza di racconti, ben collegati tra loro e allo stesso tempo abbastanza autonomi, è stato come leggere una mini-saga.
Bellissima la prefazione di Cognetti, mi ha contestualizzato al meglio il romanzo, anche partendo da un punto di vista soggettivo (ovvero il suo).

This book started off so well. Wonderful character development, storylines, and a lot of humor woven throughout. Then it got weird. We're reading another narrator's POV, being introduced to new characters and a new storyline unfolding. Then, back to Jane and the story just becomes more and more off the rails. I kept reading only for the satisfaction of seeing both stories meld and make sense. I never found it, and I still don't know the point of that detour, not to mention the sideways path about Paris and chemo... what the heck?!? I feel like I've wasted so much time for zero reward. 2-stars only because the beginning was so good.

This book exists in conversation with Judy Blume’s “Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret” and Nora Ephron’s “Heartburn”— it’s a story of family drama, awkward adolescence, and a tug between privilege and misogyny. I loved every second of it.
