Definitely should have been aged up into a college age, but kept me reading. Good dark academia and fall vibes.

3 and a half stars rounded up.

Fell flat for me - thought it would be more magical

Felicity is back at Dalloway School after the tragic death of her girlfriend. Dalloway is home to the "Dalloway Five" a group of girls (some say witches) who died, one after the other. Ellis Haley’s first year at Dalloway, a prodigy novelist and “method writer”. Ellis ends up talking the reluctant Felicity into helping her research the Dalloway Five.

I didn't know what to really expect for this and was reading it for the "aesthetic". This book was dark, thrilling, spooky and I was left happily suprised. Even though some parts were somewhat slow, I enjoyed the characters, the romance and the mystery. I think it could have been better and offered more if it was an adult book, but the children should get some stuff too.

I don't read thrillers but who can say no to a fun dark academic, thriller with sapphic women. Also look at this cover, absolutely stunning. Do I think this was the best thing ever? No, did I enjoy it? Yes. If you're considering this, I recommend reading it, seeing what you think for yourself.

Some parts of Dark Academia seem appealing. I liked aspects of this book, and whenever I was getting fed up with the story something would happen that caught my attention again.

Enjoyed it but the end and the lead up to the end fell so flat. They also could have been adults.

The premise of this novel sounded so interesting - I mean, lesbian dark academia with some lore about witches? Sign me up. Unfortunately, the story did not live up to the premise for me.

I found myself bored for so much of this novel, but too stubborn to stop reading it. The heavy detail and description attempted to be atmospheric but didn't pull me in, and it felt like there was barely anything going on. This novel focused on the main character Felicity's psyche and inner turmoil, but because so much of her real self was hidden in the deep depths of her mind, it meant I didn't really get to know her as a character, or feel engaged with the story.

There was barely any depth to the side characters at all, other than some basic poc rep. Literally one of the characters main purpose seems to be to educate Felicity about systemic racism in academia, and that wasn't even a major plot point. The only character I actually knew and liked was Ellis, because she was so passionate and strange and... fake, but it was easy for me to see through that persona she had on, which made her much more interesting than the other characters.

Truthfully, this wasn't an awful book but just had lackluster writing and shallow characters, but I enjoyed the ending enough to round this up to 2.75 stars
