ugh...I'm not sure how to rate this book. This was a tough one for me to get through. I absolutely hated the writing style. I would've DNF'd it right away except I needed to read this one for a challenge, so I plowed through.

There were good parts don't get me wrong. I cried in a couple of parts because I'm not heartless. But I have to say, I found Dan to be a really whiny, dramatic person. Sure, he's had a tough time. He's lost his boyfriend and he's struggling...I get it. But he's a hot mess the whole book. THE WHOLE BOOK!!!! And the only POV we get is Dan's which makes it all that worse.

I'm not sure if I'm going to continue or not with this series. Do I torture myself to find out what happens? (because this one just abruptly ends) Or do I cut my losses and not worry about it, because if I'm being honest, I will probably forget about Dan, Jeff, and Evan before I even open my next book.

I don't think 5 stars are near enough to express how much I loved this book. It's not a fast, easy read by any means. It's slow at times, but always steady. There's plenty of angst, but it's so well done.

At moments spectacular, with sexual tension through the roof.
At others, probably a little too talked out. Made my head hurt a bit.

Passes 2/3 of the Bechdel test, the last one we're told, not shown. Still, likeable female characters, a definite plus!

4.5 stars
Part One (5 stars) of Dark Horse is primarily focused on Dan, a man who is going through an extreme emotional period in his life. His story is emotional and heart-breaking (to the point of tears as it was so easy to feel his pain). During this time, a work related matter leads to Dan meeting Evan(a billionaire)and his lover Jeff.
Part Two is focused on Dan taking a chance and getting on with his life. He starts a new job, meets new people and gets to know Evan and Jeff as well as Evan's family.
Written in present tense (a bit strange at first but surprisingly easy to get used to), the M/M/M sexual component doesn't begin until the very end but this book is more about the relationship development, concerns and emotions. It will be interesting to see how the relationship develops in the sequel.

I publish all my m/m reviews on my blog so if you want to see all my m/m reviews in one place come visit at Because Two Men Are Better Than One!

What a terrific story! If I had a gun to my head and HAD to come up with any criticism it would only be the overuse of the word he. For awhile the word appeared in nearly every line twice but either that resolved itself or I loved the book so much I didn't notice any longer.
My absolute FAVORITE part of the book was the page after the last that stated Coming in August the sequel to Dark Horse. SO EXCITED about that! I love that we will find out more about the guys and the new relationship(s). I love stories that make me cry and this was a tissue story. I went though a ton of them. I have a feeling it will be Jeff in the next book that makes me cry the most.. luckily I get to see if I am right in just a few months!!
Thank you Kate Sherwood for writing my new favorite book!!

A bit anti-climatic even for a HFN ending. Glad there is a sequel

. Too slow and boring. I can't believe how un-hot this ménage relationship was. Nothing engaging, characters were forgettable and the story line just dragged.I most definitely will not read book 2.

A story about sorrow, and starting dating after the death of a partner, with complications. Biggest complication: the interested party is a couple, which would lead to a threesome.

A happy for now ending. Looking forward to more about Dan.

Sad to say I wasn’t able to enjoy this one as much as some of my friends here did. I tried.
