Okay, so I have said before that my favorite was Simon and will always be. So this book has taken me through the ringer of emotions. I know I should read through the next series, but I do not know if I want to. I swear if the Consul and Clave do not get a literal wakeup call and someone to make them an example, I would have a hard time reading. They are so willing to throw the future under the bus to save their own asses and honor nothing more than tradition. I want to scream. They call themselves brave but they let others do the dirty work and make decisions out of fear. I have to say that I like that the ending was not clean cut and wrapped up in a pretty bow. It was messy and real (as real as fantasy can be). This was the longest book yet and probably could be a bit longer. I am so glad that Jace has found his real self and is comfortable in his awareness. I have made my peace with Jocelyn in this book since I did not much care for her prior to this. I was surprised to find that I mourned characters and became angry with characters that I did not expect to. This last book really flipped things on its head for many of the characters. Last of all, I have to say that one big death in here was so beautiful, and as with everything else in this book, a bit unexpected. This last book was by far my favorite in the series. So sad it had to end.

This was a decent end to a great series - quite nostalgic for me now and definitely written for a young adult audience, but you know what? That was absolutely fine. I liked how Sebastian's story ended, I thought it was apt. I don't really get the Simon storyline end but that's OK too - this is fantasy; I am cool with suspending some disbelief at times (especially for a story written for YA readers!) Canny series, canny book, looking forward to reading further into the world again.
I have really mixed feelings about City Of Heavenly Fire. There were things I liked, but there were also things I didn't like.
I really love the world that we see in this series. I feel like there's so much we don't know about this world, and I like that we see how detailed this world really is.
I think I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I love the overall idea of the world, and it seems like the world is very well thought out. But at the same time, I've liked the series less and less as it went on. I've enjoyed the entire series but I also felt like the series could have ended with the third book.
I'm really struggling with what I think of City Of Heavenly Fire. I liked it, and I'm glad that things were (mostly) resolved. I wasn't particularly fond of what happened with a certain character, and while I like said character, I also found I didn't particularly care about what happened to them, or that things will seem to work out for them.
I found that Magnus is, by far, my favorite character. I'm not sure if he's getting his own series, but his story was infinitely more interesting, especially with what we learn in this book.
We meet a lot of new characters, and I actually liked that we saw chapters from many different characters. Like the previous books, there's a lot going on in this one, so it was nice to see a little bit of everything that was going on. At the same, there were so many characters that it was hard to keep track of some of them, particularly those who were introduced in this book. It was hard to be invested in them when I had some trouble keeping up with them.
Let's Rate It: I liked City Of Heavenly Fire- basically, I like the world Clare was imagined, but I didn't care about what happened to the characters. It is sad that I've lost interest as the series went on, because I really want to LOVE this series. It is a fun series, and very readable, but I think this series (FOR ME) has gone on a little too long. City Of Heavenly Fire gets 3 stars.

Seriously, the first words out of my mouth when I finished this book were - "I hate you Cassandra Clare." I hate her in the best way possible. This book. I can't. How did it take me so long to finish this series? I'm just gonna go to bed now and scream while I wait for Lady Midnight.

It took me nearly a year to complete this book. I just stopped, picked back up when I could and would continue on the journey. It was a couple of things that caused this. For one, I was not ready for this exciting and thrilling journey full of werewolves, vampires, faeries, and shadow hunters to end. I didn't want to let go of Clary and Jace's love but it was also a struggle at the same time. It was a struggle to completely and entirely have what I've wanted to have since the beginning of the series. It was completion of the want/need/yearning I had for these characters since day one and it was maybe a little too... "storybook" of an ending for my taste. I wish it could have ended on a cliffhanger note in a way and yet, it didn't. Even when things were completely taken from characters, I was still not satisfied. This was not her best but it was slightly enjoyable that I managed to stretch it out for so long. I don't feel at peace with these characters but I guess I'll live it all again if and when the television show airs.
10 years ago I read books 1 - 5. Then I needed to wait for the release of this book and more specif, the Dutch translation, because I didn't read in English then. Time went by and for reasons I didn't read this book. But, I never stopped thinking about it and I didn't receive spoilers, so I did not know how the story would end.
And before I knew it, 10 years had passed. I bought a pretty box set and thought it was time to re-read the other books, so I could fill up the holes of the story that I forgot. That was a brilliant idea, because I had a decent amount of memories of book 1, very little memories of book 2 & 3, and NO memories of books 4 & 5...
So safe to say that the last 19 days were a roller-coaster of emotions. I was happy, scared, angry and full of anxiety(I cried almost non-stop for the last 200 pages of this book...)
And now I can finally say I read the Mortal Instruments. A story that will always have a place in my heart, with an ending I never dared hope to have and with so much more than I dreamed for.
I was also so sure that I would end the shadowhunter world with this book. (I already read the infernal devices). But now I'm to curious about the dark artifacts... maybe after a break ;)

I had to read this book because I had to know how things ended. But I was daunted by the size of it. So I chose to listen to the audio. I would probably have given it 4 stars if not for the way the narrators in the audio irritated me. First, the female narrator's voice grated on me. Second, there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to the alternating of the readers. That meant I'd get used to a character sounding one way only to have the voice change. I wish I'd just gone ahead and read the book instead of listening to the audio.
This is also another book that would have benefited from closer attention from an editor. For example, the in-depth descriptions of kissing got very repetitive. Every time characters who are in love have time together, we were treated to a detailed description of them making out. This got really noticeable towards the end when I started to realize that the descriptions were all remarkably similar. Every make out session started to sound the same no matter who the participants were.
That said, I was engaged in the story and really wanted to find out how it turned out. The intersections with The Infernal Devices series were interesting. Not sure I feel invested enough to continue reading the next series. The foreshadowing of that storyline in this book was very heavy handed and it didn't grab me. Only time will tell if I change my mind. I'm sure my decision will be partly influenced by whether the books are actually edited to a manageable length or are as long as this one was.
Actual rating 3.5 stars, but I don't feel strongly enough to feel the urge to round up.
