This book is a lot different than a lot of other self-help books, not just because there's science and studies to back up claims, but also it emphasizes how the system is rigged and doesn't work for anyone who's not cis, white, and male.
And that not only do we need to take care of ourselves, but we need to take care of each other, and fight the system that doesn't work for so many people.

Honestly, pretty solid- I liked what they had to say and it definitely resonated. However, I advise reviewing content warnings before diving in because it was intense and I often got uncomfortable. I still enjoyed it though. It's good work and they hit some important points.

3.5 stars. I agree with a lot of the comments. This book was really well-intentioned and had a lot of great information to share, but the overly familiar, aimed for 2012 buzzfeed feminists style writing was just so jarring that it’s hard to take it seriously. I’m actually really bummed because I’ve heard such great things about this book, and I was so frustrated trying to get through the writing that I almost just said “fuck it, I’ll keep being exhausted.”

Read through this with a couple friends over a few months, which made tracking the different example cases a bit difficult.

Overall a lot of great ideas and things I'd like to implement. By the time I'd read this book, I'd already encountered many of the ideas and learnings elsewhere, and I often struggled with the pop psychology tone of the writing here. But I'm glad the book exists and that I finally read it!

Clearly writtten for a 2016 tumblr-dweller with respect for science but no inclination to actually read academic writing. The advice is generally good, but I'd rather dispense with the too-young tone, which read to me as far more condescending than necessary and took up an excessive amount of space in the text. Once again, not the book I'd hoped it would be--although to be fair, this was through no fault of the authors, who produced exactly the book they set out to write. Just not the book for me.
