wow, i really didn't like this. the whole book felt a bit messy and all the things the author had to say were repeated numerous times, which annoyed me so much towards the end! [i get it. you're scared of robots. okay.]
i loved »reasons to stay alive« but this one.. nah. not my cup of tea, tbh.

if Matt Haig wrote it, it’s probably 5 stars from me. this book was no exception!!

Very sweet, with some great one liners to alleviate the anxiety that comes with being a human.
If someone asked me - why did you read this one? well 2020 made me do it honestly.
I've followed Matt Haig for a while on Twitter and up till very recently i had often considered buying this one but had never taken that step...and then 2020 happened to us all.
At a first glance this may seem like "oh no not another self help book!" and yet, it is so much more than that.
Based on his own personal battles he puts together a serious of thoughts, suggestions, advices, all at first glance deceptively simple and yet so true and effective.
He was very upfront and honest with is own personal experience in battling some pretty heavy demons and learning from it...so was x , y and z person you might say, and be right be about it.
Why is Matt Haig different? i can't speak for anyone else but me, so i will tell you this much, his struggles and his past experience resonated with me and my own demons in a very close and personal way, and yes that fantastic British way of seeing life helped a lot as well.
2020 has been an unforgettable year....and we're only just starting the second half of it, so who knows whats yet to come (myself i vote for the Gremlins theory) ....what i think Matt's book does is help brings us all down to earth, help remind us of the tools at our disposal to keep moving forward, as hard as it may seem to see it right now, i do believe better days will come, Gremlins or no Gremlins!
Happy Readings!

Straight up badly written: scattered and repetitive with a bunch of shallow, obvious platitudes masquerading as wise advice/insight into the world. Reeks of white middle-class privilege with little to no self-awareness thereof (there's a whole word vomit chapter on what it would be like if we ignored race/gender/etc and just saw each other as ~human~, and another part about how ~inspiring~ a visit to a homeless shelter was... all right man). No direct citations or sources aside from some books quoted in the text; even if you're being purposefully messy, you should still say where you're getting any actual statistics from? I think the alternative is called "plagiarism" or perhaps "making shit up."
Some weird leaps of logic based on anecdotes too -- I really don't think panic attacks occur frequently in supermarkets because of, uh, the unnaturalness of processed foods or the subconscious realization of how companies are manipulating us or whatever tangent Haig went on there. I'd wager it has more to do with the much more obvious factors of the amount of people in them and required interactions with those people, general intense sensory input (smells, noise, lighting, etc), and thought spirals about choices and money.
Overall made me more rather than less anxious, so also kind of failed in its basic purpose.

Honestly, I loved ‘Reasons to Stay Alive’, but this I did not enjoy. If anything this book made me more stressed and anxious than I was already feeling.
I think maybe I’m just not that addicted to technology, because I just didn’t “get” it.
