I liked the journal concept of the story. This made me connect more with Haytham and see his thought process. I haven’t played this particular game of Assassin’s Creed, so everything was a surprise for me. Having said that, I still couldn’t help but think about which parts of the story would have been included in the game.

I thought the plot of the story was quite heartbreaking throughout the whole novel.
First, of course, with the fire at the house, but also at parts like the cruelty of Braddock, the suicide of Holden, and the end when Connor has to kill his own father.

Also,

deserved better and I'm tired of people ignoring her.

If any video game series deserved a range of spin off novels it was Assassin’s Creed.
Forsaken is basically Haytham's diary which you already saw on the game. Super happy that this book was through Haytham's point of view. It was a nice change and we finally got to see how and why he even became a Templar.

To read Haytham's story was heartbreaking, but through it I have gained so much more respect and love for a character that I already regarded highly. His story was detailed so well and made so much sense with regards to the events in the game. I needed to hear his side of the story ; I am glad I did. I wished it ended differently and that he and Connor could've reconciled, instead of ending in his death, but he did so standing by what he did. Honestly, I mourned him when I killed him in game( I will never forgive the creators for making me do so, mostly jesting), and now more so after discovering that he was a man taken by the people who ruined his family, a man of respect and honor, a man of hope once , and a man who lost his faith; I both mourn him more and I am endeared to him even more.

I wished we'd knew a lot more of Haytham Kenway in the game when I played it. It was so detailed that I really wish was part of the game.
